I have a shortlist of films I'd like to see, but would be open to some other recommendations.

I've purchased Green Mile (which I'm going to watch tonight)
Shawshank redemption
The Untouchables
We were soldiers
Requiem for a dream.

(All of the above worth a watch?)

I know it's a very very vague thread, but would appreciate if people could recommend some films in the same vane to the ones above.

Ones which could probably bring on 'man tears' as I call them..

Requiem is not an easy film to watch, lingered in my head for a while after watching it and it is possibly the darkest film i've ever seen. BUT the score is awesome, properly awesome.

If you've never seen shawshank then you are in for a treat.

If you want to see some good films, anything off this list will be a good place to start

SC, if you're under 65 then I wouldn't really bother with any of these (except Josey Wales)
WHat are your favourite films currently to give us an idea of films you will like?

Anything by Pixar
The Abyss
The Usual Suspects
Dog Soldiers
Super Troopers

Just a few from my collection that get more regular viewings... Depends on what you're into really.

I'm only 18! Nothing much good has come out of late IMO. Watched Green Mile last night, and am not ashamed to admit tears were freely flowing!

Ah, only 18. Then there might be loads of classics you've missed then
THis is a list of must see films- I assume you've seen some of them but if any of these you've missed:

Leon
Schindlers List
Die Hard
Pulp Fiction
Usual Suspects
Goodfellas
Gladiator paperbag
Terminator
Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
Jaws
Stand by Me

Just off the top of my head. All of those are 9 or 10/10 for me.

If you can watch subtitled films then two I would recommend (which someone on PH mentioned) are:

Ne le dis à personne (Tell No One) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0362225/
Das Lesben der Anderen (The Lives of Others) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0405094/

Both fab films, IMO.

OP it might be worth checking out some TV boxsets too. Band of Brothers springs to mind, I must admit I had 'some grit in my eye' as it drew to a close.

You could have just told me on MSN Scott, as it's what we were talking about anyway

rofl

But cheers anyway dude, someone told me Shawshank drags slightly, but have heard so many decent reviews and is rated number one by most websites!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, keep 'em coming.

I think Usual Suspects (Kevin Spacey?) and Pulp Fiction are next on the list, as I have had many raving review off various people.

Leon? Never heard of it but will look into it.

Deleted the others as I have seen, but thanks anyway, appreciated!

I've seen Band of Brothers, and I agree, towards the end it becomes very very moving.

Just out of interest, is there any other box sets you'd recommend?
