Does anyone remember the BBC sci-fi series "The Tripods"?

I loved it as a kid, and have read all the books in the trilogy. The theme music was fantastic too - I'll see if I can find a YouTube link to the music. They really creeped me out.

I'm just starting to re-read the trilogy, and in my enthusiasm thought I'd post to see if anyone else loved this series. They never finished the tv series and it wasn't as good as the book (it never is), but still.. is it sacrilege to say it was a better show than Dr Who? smile

Here's a picture I found from wiki to bring back those memories.. All hail the Tripods!

Yes, I remember the tv series and I read all the books but I can only vaguely remember the story. I've still got the books somewhere, it might be time for a re-read.

I remember thinking it was a blatant War of the Worlds rip off and being very annoyed that they only made the first two books out of three into TV series.

I can see the similarities with War of the Worlds, but I wouldn't say it was a rip-off.

I found the opening theme on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3AmykynKhMw

Watched the series again about a year ago and was surprised how little the actual "Tripods" appear onscreen. But some images, like the Tripods approaching the Alps(?)and sanctuary brought the memories flooding back.

I remember it well. I was gutted they didn't make a third series.

In my search to watch/download The Tripods online, I found TheTripodsOnline.com, where you can watch all the old episodes. That's my evening/night booked up smile

Just had a quick look at that site. I have a horrible feeling all my childhood memories are going to be destroyed. Is it really going to look as dated as I think it is.

I already ruined one perfect memory by buying The Box of Delights and watching that at Christmas.

I also remember thinking, this is War of the Worlds baddies if they won.

And also being annoyed they didn't finish it off, cas it was a good idea.

It was basically a childrens version of WotW. I remember it well, I had read the books a few years before and was very excited when they made the T.V. series. I do remember also being disapointed it wasn't as good as the books and that it finished early.

+1 on the books cool

Read all three as a child and really enjoyed them. Great imagery (and scary at times!)
