I watch very few films on TV, but last night watched The Sting on ITV (Newman/Redford) which I can recall watching years ago with my Dad.

In it of course, they set up a fake Bookies. My faded memory had it that those conned, returned to the place the next day to find it an empty building, and realised they had been duped. That's not what happened in The Sting though.

So now I'm wracking my brains trying to think what film had a similar scene, where a fake office was set up, for the purpose of a sting, which the fall guys returned to the next day, to find it empty and realise they'd been conned?.

Not a lot to go on I know, but it would be a film from the 70's (poss late 60's) or very early 80's, as I don't really watch films.

It would be a similar genre to The Sting, comedy crime-caper or action/thriller.

Running through my mind are "Thoroughly Modern Millie" or "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World", but to be honest, I don't have a clue.

Anyone ?

Anyhoo, the scenario you describe sounds very familiar OP...I thought it was the Sting 2 at first, but am now wracking my brain to think of it, am sure I have seen this, love caper/swindle films.

It sounds like a Mission Impossible series episode.

The way you describe it does ring a bell.

Sounds like David Mamet's 'The Spanish Prisoner' to me.
