I have a lot of time hanging around at the moment and I as wondering what the opinion here is on Love Film. I watch several at least one movie a day, sometimes two and my collection is somewhat depleted. Is LF any good? Are there any better alternatives for the DVD watcher?

Tried love film a couple of times, seemed to be pretty good. Delivery was very prompt, I did receive one unplayable disc but I received a replacement very quickly. Seems to be a pretty decent back catalogue as well. They have free trials on all the time so you may as well give it a go

Really like Lovefilm. Fast service, fast turnaround and it's excellent fun adding films to your list whilst pished then wondering what the fk they are when they appear a month later. Film roulette is great too, you watch a lot more since it's all included.

Looking at my profile I've had nearly 700 films from Lovefilm over 5 years.

I've had a couple go astray in the post before and they just ask you to wait 7 days and then if it still hasn't arrived they'll send out the next one.

The only problem is that I'm running seriously short of decent films/series to watch.

Usually takes about 3-4 days from posting to reciving the new ones, so can easily get through 12-15 films in a month if you're watching them quick enough. Occasionally get a damaged one that glitches but not one in a fair while though, though it could be my PS3 is more tollerent than my old DVD player, and if you do get a damaged on they usually send an extra disk out on top of your usualy allocation.

Usualy deal is 2 weeks free on signup but any of us can give you a promo code to get 30 days if you're going to try it. Worth checking out a few of the similar deals elsewhere too though, one of the supermarkets ones is run by lovefilm but is about £1/month cheaper.

We've got the £4 deal which is for a couple of films a month and it's well worth it. For that price it's far better than messing about with torrents, and it's guilt free too wink

As for the service - no problems so far (been signed up for about 15 months in total I think). We usually get the next film within 3-4 days of posting and haven't had a bad disc yet.

As toasty says, one of the biggest problems is thinking of films to add to the list smile

I had the 3 month free trial, good service. But I didn't use it enough to warrant the subscription. I did however win a free popcorn maker for my trouble. I don't even remember entering the competition. But hey ho, free things are good!

Frequently have cards for 2 month free trials if anyone wants one. Have found it to be great service and also like ability to download films easily too.

i'm on the "2 disc unlimited" package, which i use and abuse over the winter, but have slowed down from 2 moves a week to 2 a month. if they did subscription breaks, it'd be perfect, as i dont use it june-september, much rather spend my evenings elsewhere.

I hate love film, but have yet to find somewhere better. I've had Avatar at the top of my list since it was announced that it was coming out on BD. They still haven't sent me it. They really are rubbish in this respect.

The only way around it is to have only 1 or 2 films on your list, which makes it a PITA as you have to keep adding something every other day.

I have 2 lists setup

1 list is a "filler" list that has around 40 titles on it and 2 disks allocated to it.
The other list is my "quick" list, which only has 3 titles at most on it and 1 disk allocated to it. I just move things to the quick list if I want anything desperately, otherwise it comes when it comes on the longer list.

I found the service good for films but if you want a series then you get episodes 1-3 then 4-6 then 10-13 missing out 7-9
Even when I rang and was told that they'd send out 7-9 it was a pain.

As stated above , better off just getting films from a torrent

They do actually have a 'holiday' option where they freeze your service.

They do actually have a 'series in order' option where they will only send you the series in the right order.

Didn't know you could do that - split discs across multiple lists. I have the two disc one, so could run a blockbuster and filler list.

Cheers

I use Lovefilm.
great service, prompt delivery and good online streaming service.

To get as many films as I do, whilst still providing a revenue stream for the industry it is great value.

I am on 2 discs unlimited including BluRay and PS3. It is £15/month.
This also allows me to watch a massive amount of titles on their site.

If you are going through one a day then I'd say it would be worth it for you.

I've got a Samsung telly now and I'm considering whether to do the online service through the TV, I'd be more likely to just use online films than DVDs in the post. I'm just trying to find out what you get in the package when you sign up. I've found this page about the DVD rentals with online access, are there any subscriptions for purely online films? http://www.lovefilm.com/dvd-rental/
