Looking for a new series to watch and have never seen this, is it worth getting into?

YES. End of.

OK to expand - it has great stories, great acting and great comedic moments. One of the best things on TV - but don't think NCIS:LA will be the same, it isn't.

Agree, really enjoy the team banter and fun characters. LA is different but I still like it, though I think that's mainly due to the Hetty character smile

Ziva David

cloud9

The problem you might have getting into it at this stage is that in the later seasons there are issues which surfaced in earlier seasons. Plus depending on which channel(s) you watch it on then you can be flitting back and forth from season to season.

More or less all episodes are self contained so once you get a grip on who is who, and who has replaced who when they were killed then easy enough to drop in and out of.

btw did I say that Ziva is smoking hot?

Oh yes, by far the best of the US 'crime drama' series at the moment - 8.7/10 at tvguide.co.uk, while CSI is in the 6-7 range.

You could just pick it up, but some of the older episodes are exceptionally good if you wanted to LoveFilm it or buy box sets. Look out for 'Kill Ari', though there is quite a build up to it. wink

ETA- Also a particularly good episode containing the lines
"Read him his rights"
"You have no rights. You will be placed on the first available transport to 'Gitmo'"
hehe

To add, 'Criminal Minds', 'Law and Order', and 'The Closer' are also very good. And some episodes of 'Cold Case' and 'Without a Trace' have brought tears to my eyes.

Honestly, no-one had mentioned JAG yet?

I adore NCIS, it's a spin off from JAG (circa 1995 - 2005)

Both are brilliant if you like that sort of thing. Great dialogue, some far fetched storylines, and brilliant in jokes. Very American series, with the jokes and conventions that go along with that.

And of course, based on the armed forces.

Watch it from the beginning, i don't like the latest ones as much, although they are still good TV. The characters, scripting, comedic elements are all top-notch TV.

NCIS is a lot of fun. Highly formulaic but entertaining nonetheless. Much like Stargate SG1 it combines drama with a lot of humour. The relationships between the main characters are the source of its addictiveness.

Really good, a bit CSI like but more fun and slapstick/tong in cheek comedy touches.

It is really good in that it relies on the characters stories as well as the weekly stories. As such you will find if you watch the "later" episodes that some references are part of the back story. The good thing is that these are constantly referenced but do not stop you enjoying the show. For example In one story reference is made to a main character that left the series. The reference is made to inform that another character in the story in "unavailable".

Can I say that I love NCIS but don't like JAG (the show it is a spinoff from).

NCIS is a near perfect mix of plot, characters & humour and is a strong contender to be THE best of the US crime shows.

JAG was for the most part silly nonsense about navy lawyers who for the most part did anything but the job they were supposed to be doing. Its only redeeming feature was the smoking hot girl they had in it.

Good point

Your earliest starting point should be at the latest series 3, though the first two series (without Zeva) are still very good and ideally you should start with those.

Your user name is a bit of a dilemma then isn't it? winkhehe

NCIS is great. My favourite parts of it are when they reference other shows, films and 'geek' culture. nerd

I really like NCIS, Im not really a fan of ziva I prefered kate and of course Abby biggrin

Its worth watching it from the beginning if you have the time smile

There has been some very clever plot lines, but also some very boring episodes too.

Also if you like NCIS give Burn Notice a try too.
