Spooks In HD

I cannot fathom why its not in HD - surely if ever BBC had a flagship programme for HD its Spooks - anyone know why ?

I am sure series 8 had a better picture quality than the current one.

It's baffled me too - not just for Spooks, but most of the BBC1 content is not shown on their HD channel.

Cost of filming it in HD?

Is it still a lot more to film in HD rather than standard def?

It wasn't HD in the past because it was filmed on Super 16, which the BBC wouldn't accept as HD (although Kudos would release HD versions of the programme on Blu Ray etc). Apparently changing to HD would have changed the distinctive style of the programme. Unlike Hustle or Ashes to Ashes, Spooks may make more use of CGI - which is more expensive in HD and one of the reasons why it took so long for Dr Who to HD too.
