Another excellent programme from the Horizon team, discussing the subject of what may have come before the big bang. If you didn't catch it, I would highly recommend catching on iplayer.

I thought they pitched at the right level, not being too complex for the layman but containing enough 'meaty' science for the more scientifically-minded viewer. Good work BBC. Keep it up please!

Using cricket as an analogy didn't turn out too well for one scientist hehe

Watched it for about 30 minutes and it blew my mind after a hard days work, so recorded it for later. biggrin

It all ok suggesting what was before the big bang which is plausible, but what produced the something that produced the everything before it ? From what I saw you could keep asking that question for every answer they gave.

Did they have an explanation......something like a big bang maybe hehe

Even though a mind screwing question nuts I won't be thinking of becoming a God botherer any time soon.

I found Steven Hawkins programs over the last few weeks easier to comprehend.

They were addressing the question of what (if anything) existed before the big bang. The big bang theory states that time and space were created at the big bang, therefore by definition there was no 'before' that event. To propose the idea that something preceded the big bang is a huge side step to this. But you're right, you can always ask the question what came before that, ad infinitum. One step at a time for the theorists!

The whole subject is mind boggling to say the least.

Would be interesting to hear what people think who believe in God.

If he supposedly created everything, then what or who created him so he was able to create ?

An absolutely excellent programme imho. I'm fascinated by Penrose's new theory which seems very plausible.

Loved the stuff on energy/vacuums and the gravity wave hunt.

Horizon back to 'serious enough to explore something sensibly' like in the good old days!
