Was a good programme amazing to think it's illegal to bomb a dam now, the worlds gone soft

The couple of minutes I saw in the middle certainly looked like it. My Grandfather was a tail gunner with 617, did quite a few of the test drops but wasn't on the dam raids.

Agreed, a good program.

I didn't like the way Martin Shaw came across though.

Could have done without Shaw feeling sorry for the Germans, and referring to it as "futile".

Spoilt an interesting programme, for me.

Thoroughly enjoyed that. I sensed the conflict of emotions in Shaw's conscience. The Germans are friends now, and have a complicated rememberance of the war themselves. We quite rightly need to celebrate our efforts over the Nazis but we must also acknowledge the innocents that suffered too, and we mustn't be seen to "lord" our win over them in modern times.

It'd be a bit too Fawlty Towers.

personally, id say rollox to that, without the painful memories of the past intact, there would be nothing to stop it happening again, the germans got up to all sorts of evil st during ww2 so bombing a couple of dams isnt really that bad in comparison

I think looking back you can fall into the trap of being nice when at the time you had to be the opposite. The terms and condition were set out by Hitler.

Great programme but rather spoilt by Martin Shaw as I found him to be a bit annoying as a 'presenter'. Fascinating that the size of the bomb was classified right up until 1974 !

Dambusters and 633 Squadron were two of my favourite Saturday/Sunday afternoon films as a youngster smile

Got a copy of flypast with a write up of the film from the makers perspective. They were happy they were not far off.

Back to the show. I fancied there was more for a two show but this one show did not do it enough justice.

Exactly, and luckily for us our parents and grand parents were up to the task.
