Just moved into a new place with a dish so looking to connect the sky dish, what I need to know is what channels do I need to get for the most car programmes?

I like docs so I'm guessing discovery for wheeler dealers etc, I also like racing so motors tv? Will I get anything on the sports channels or is it just blokes kicking balls around?

Not really into nascar etc

So suggestions please!

Eurosport is the best bet for motorsport, off the top of my head they show WTCC, GP2, Le Mans, Porsche Supercup etc all live, plus all the practice/quali/races for MotoGP, WSBK and British Superbikes if you're into two wheels.

Motors shows the WRC highlights and quite a few national series but not much live stuff, I think Eurosport and Motors are part of the same £2 a month add on to the base package so if you get one, you'll get both. There's also NASCAR which has been shown on some weird open access channel (190) after Sky Sports dropped it, whether it will be again next year though is anyone's guess, depends if whoever paid for it will do it again or if one of the recognised broadcasters takes it on. There's also ITV4 which shows all the BTCC live but you'll get that with any package too.

As for Discovery etc, most of those come as another £2 add on package so you should be able to get most for fairly modest outlay.

I think the only thing you'll gain by taking out a Sky Sports subscription is Indycar.

When Telewest/Virgin didn't show MotorsTV I used to yearn for it. Having it now. I can honestly say I hardly watch it. Always seems to be the Scottish Mini Cooper cup championship from Knockhill. Though, sometimes they have a smidgen of ALMS hidden away

Eurosport is a much better proposition for high end Motorsport.

Yep I wouldnt really miss Motors that much either, forgot about ALMS but thats probably the highlight, the WRC coverage is crap, 90% in car with no commentary watching dusty roads through a letterbox

Motors TV is worth it for the ALMS alone (inc. Sebring and Petit) Love watching the V8 supercars too - really shows how crap the BTCC/WTC is.

Eurosport gets the LMS, but they rarely show more than the first and last hours. The also show Le Mans for the full 24 hours, but any self respecting PHer will be there anyway :P

We watched Sebring, and the most annoying thing is that its the feed from SpeedTV but with that (ttty) Newkie bloke doing commentary. So you'll see a few drivers being interviewed before or during the race and have NO FUUCKING CLUE what they are saying. The whole Audio is removed in faour of their people. So even the engine roar is when they go past their comm box. At the start of the race, it was SILENT!

While I will agree that the on screen interviews not syncing with the audio being a bit off putting, the Radio Le Mans team (headed by John Hindhaugh, that ttty Newkie brilliant Mackem) that they use for Sebring/Petit Le Mans is fantastic - to the point that watching the Eurosport feed muted with RLM on is the sensible option when they do the LMS.
