The Indian Doctor
Discussion
I recorded this yesterday as it seemed like a good watch and I was rewarded when I watched it last night as it, at this point, seems like a nice series to watch - Sanjeev Bhaskar plays his part well and it all seems well written.
It is, however, a little formulaic and you can, clearly, see where it's going, but I enjoyed the writing and the acting - it'll be interesting to see if it improves over the next few days.
Or am I the only one that has seen it?

I watched the first episode on I player after seeing this thread.
It's a twee lightweight drama not to be taken too seriously.
It's remarkable how a mining village in the sixties could have been so PC some decades before New Labour, but then it is the BBC. The arrival of the Indian Doctor elicits nothing more than some mildly derogatory language and no expletives. As somebody else posted, we all know that in reality there would probably have been a brick through the surgery window etc.
I like Sanjeev Bhaskar, but his faux Indian accent kept slipping and revealing his Estuary tones. If you have Indian ancestry like me, or have spent a lot of time around Indians recently arrived from India, you will know that there is a distinctive head movement and body language that accompanies their speech. Sanjeev didn't even try to emulate these.
Come on Sanjeev I expected a lot better!

I saw about 20 minutes of this, and thought it was quite good. Mark Williams and Sanjeev Bhaskar are great, but what the hell were the BBC thinking when they decided to show this in the middle of the afternoon? As said, it would be perfect for the 9pm Sunday night slot. Extraordinary decision.
