A while back, there was a golf advert, where everyone in it said, 'Yeh, like a golf.'

I was thinking about this this morning on the way to work and how it used to enrage me when about halfway through the ad, there was a scene that had 3 lads in a garage leaning over a bodykitted purple Mk3 Golf (might have been VR6, but can't remember), with the bonnet up and one of them goes, "DOHC blah blah." and his mate replies, "Yeh, like a golf."

It used to send me into irrarional apoplexy, "IT IS A fkING GOLF YOU " etc.. Can someone explain to me why I'm being stupid and didn't 'get' the ad?

Wasn't the purple car shown to be a fiesta, in a thread on here a while ago?

What annoys me about the ad is the subtext that 'Like a golf' is somehow a really good thing?

Hasn't got *that* many redeeming features really has it?

Well it's got you thinking about them...

Good advertising ploy, shame it's German.

Not sure if this is the bit you're referring to....

From here

In the "Just like a Golf" advert, not all the cars are VW products.

The police car in the background of the scene where a witness it being interviewed by a copper is a Vauxhall Astra Mk5.

The car beeing hooned around a racetrack is actually two cars. The interior shots are of a current-shape Honda Civic, and the exterior shots are of a BMW 1-Series 5-door.

The "Barry boy" car is indeed a modified Mk3 VW Golf Mk3 (as previously identified by andrewaudi).

In the scene where the car salesman is trying to sell a black car, I'm pretty sure the car he's demonstrating is a Peugeot of some kind (5-door 206 or 307, I reckon).

I can't see it. I'd like to look at the thread that shows it to be a fiesta. Has anyone got it to hand?

I'd say a golf. Look at a fiesta

The indicators are pointing at the top, which cannot be seen on the purple car (either side). Also look at the lip of the wheel arch, even on the most basic fiesta it has a much more pronounced lip

vs.

Which is obviously a Fiesta.
