Although i love Wheeler Dealers and it is easily one of the best PH programmes on.. There was a couple of things in the episode that annoyed me

For startes Mike swaps the Escort Cosworth Alloys (worth anywhere upto a grand) to a dealer at the Value of around £300. It's a horrible loss, and the show claims it was a bargain that they got £300 knocked off for the alloys. It really wasn't.

The leather Mike bought was said to be in amazing condition, just from my TV i could see 2 stains/marks on the drivers seat leather that they were showcasing and the bolsters were worn to fk.

Then when it showed Ed fitting the original Sapphire wheels back on, you could clearly see that they had fitted new tyres... guess what tyres?

RUNWAYS. stty budget brand which would have cost maybe £25 a Corner. Bear in mind this car was said to be around 400bhp. You'd have thought a performance tyre would command a performance tyre

Why have they done this? I know the show isn't as as true as it seems and it is just entertainment.

I just had to say that hehe

What you think PH?

I watch it but everything about it annoys me. The guy has no idea about preping cars and then goes on to make pennies from it. Makes some of the worst deals ive ever seen.

Yeh, last night for example

Begun the show "A nice Ferrari 348 can fetch upto £20k"

Midway through the show "These sell for upto 16k Ed!" Mike proclaims

So then they advertise it for 12 and take 11500 iirc (something like that anyway)

A recent one I saw was a Range Rover.

Rear door had been damaged instead of repairing it they got a second hand one as it would be cheaper.

well yeah maybe but he kept saying how it was perfect even though when the camera panned past it you could clearly see rust all around the door handle.
(also annoyed me how they treated the door, he kept picking it up in the scrap yard and droping it on the floor, probaby just me that one though)

it looked odd because the rest of the doors were fine and was a slightly different colour.

think they made a loss on that one as well.

But they can't make a loss, a lot of things they get are free.

Oh, hold on. The missus has just pointed out that's Brewer's inability to make a 'th' sound biggrin

Where are all of these £11500 Ferrari 348s? I'll take one please biggrin

I've seen this programme in the past, and I do find it massively entertaining ...... because it is such a load of ste.

This is the show where he will travel the length and breadth of the country to pick up his "bargain", using a few hundred quid of fuel in the process, then spend several days "preparing the car", before finally making a barely anything in profit (excluding the labour, fuel, and consumables costs)

"Now we've got the car back from the sprayers, where Mike stumped up £2k, I'm going to reattach all the brightwork using the original rusty, chipped and dirty screws, rather than brand new shiny ones that would have cost me pence......"

It was a Ferrari 308 GT4 not a 348 smile

If there were any 348s for sale at £11500 I'd be buying one too!

I like watching the show. It always bugs me that they just make up a profit figure, but it's TV and it's nice to see some of the cars that they have such as the Volvo P1800

Last night was the BMW 840 episode - it sure seemed a lot of effort to go to for £750 profit.

They don't factor in the labour charges for Ed so I think they would make a loss on most cars. Mike Brewer is a bit annoying but everytime I see an old episode advertised I generally watch it

And all the fluids they would have needed after draining all the systems.

The idea is that DIY has no "labour" cost. It's a telly programme so will have some element of artistic licence smile

Yes the standard MK1 GTi they forgot to add the rear hatch sticker too, stuck the side stripes on upside down, had some p-slots polished so the centre caps didn't match anymore - but that's OK because we'll paint them matte black, oh and it miraculously became the much rarer 'campaign edition' when it was time for the chubby cock-er-knee to sell on, despite being the wrong age, wrong colour etc etc.

My personal favorites were the 'Barn find' Beatle when the guy how sold it to chubster told him it was scrap but he bought it anyway - poor old Ed correctly pointed out it wasn't a popular version and the body was more rust than body so scraped the shell to make a buggy - the buggy kit cost a fortune but included all the suspension, wheels, seats etc he only needed the chassis, engine and steering from the donor car - of course the chassis wasn't suitable so got binned, the engine was ruined and binned - Ed built what was a pretty lovely buggy and chubster going on and on about this beetle he got "for a song" although the cost had to have been way more than the cost of a second-hand steering column.

The VW Transporter that they vinyl wrapped that was so unpopular when it came time to sell they had to write in that Ed bought it (at a massive loss)

And of course the SJ410 mini 4x4 thing that Ed spend ages wading into spending money on to make it look pretty ignoring the massive holes in the body work - surprise surprise it wouldn't get past the MOT so sold it at a massive loss.
That sounds so negative, but I actually love the show, in a sort of love to hate way – it’s a technicolour warning to any budding home mechanic that thinks you can make fortunes buying and doing up cars.

I remember thinking that at the time too, however were they genuine Escort Cosworth alloys? Ford sold a Mondeo with similar looking alloys at one point, don't think they were as wide as the Cosworth ones, perhaps it had those on it??

They've recently been showing revisits, repeating the original program and then going on to show the car how it is now, none of the owners are the ones that supposedly purchased them at the end of the original show.
