I agree and it does work, I have been going on about this sort of thing for years.

I spent from 13-18 in the CCF and loved most of it, certainly taught me a lot. Plus the children enjoy it and it gives them focus.

Not only that it gives the ex serviceman/woman a path after they leave which is sometimes hard for them, seems a natural thinkg to move into to me.

I agree we live in an age where you must be seen to be politically correct and in effect allow the little darlings to do what the hell they want.

It already is. Although the ins and outs of the scheme are pretty hazy.

It could work and it should work. My maths teacher at school was a Major in the TA.

Sounds like a fantastic idea.

A local bus company employed a load of ex Gurkas to drive the night buses, if they can deal with a load of pissed up valley boys and girls they could do wonders with Kids.

Plus in my experiance anything to dilute the type of person who takes teaching as a profession is fine by me.

I'm not convinced that flooding classrooms with action men is the way forward. I went to a state comprehensive school (comprehensively st) where the pupils bullied the teachers physically and verbally. Bright children's learning was held back by disruptive pond scum. But like an absent father, the head teacher was constantly swanning off on managerial jollies, leaving a group of senior teachers in charge. (We had a deputy head teacher but most of us didn't even know his name, he was that elusive.) Consensus leadership is farcically ineffective. Assertive head teachers who can be called upon to restore order at any time of the day are what is really needed. Let teachers concentrate on teaching.
