Takeshi's Castle
Discussion
Yes, I know it’s old, but re-runs are on Challenge TV at the moment, so I’ve been enjoying it again, and still laughing at the contestants as they attempt to get to the Showdown - via the many suicidal challenges - all led by that ladies’ favourite: General Lee.
Takeshi’s Castle has to be the best Game Show ever, but my favourite challenges (for sheer brutality), have to be
High Rollers
Wipe Out
Bridge Ball
Velcro Fly
and the ultimate shin-shredder, Skipping Stones!
Great narration by Craig Charles as well.

I've not seen the OAP one, but I can only imagine the carnage!
I'd love to see some 'official' stats on the types and amount of injuries the contestants suffer. One chap on last night's show completely smashed his face against a rock doing 'Skipping Stones', and a Japanese girl nearly snapped her spine in two on the 'High Rollers'!
There must be numerous broken ribs, smashed teeth and torn ligaments and muscles. If a contest gets through to the 'Showdown' with only brusing (severe probably), then he/she can count themselves lucky!

Can you imagine them trying to get it commissioned now-a-days. Elf and safety would have a field day. Even the water looked dangerous!
Just falling into the water on some of the challenges would probably put you out of commission for a few days with ear or eye infections, and a severe stomach bug if any of it was swallowed.I wonder if the production company had to put the local hospital on alert when a game was on

So glad this has moved to a reasonable timeslot now! As first year students, we used to stay up until 5:00am drinking and watching it - proper Keshi Heads. Sadly, in final year, drinking all the time and late nights aren't really an option. We were very excited when we saw it was back on around dinner time.
