I am not a fan of 'TV' but I do like watching programs from box-sets as I actually get to follow the story line and I don't need to deal with adverts etc. I despise TV so much I do not even have an aerial, just a PC/PS3 linked to a screen.

I have watched -

The Wire twice
The Shield
Breaking Bad
Sons of Anarchy
Scrubs (strangely watchable)
American Dad

Am currently watching Generation Kill and have OZ on its way.

I have tried -

Lost - got bored after a while. Really couldn't care what happened in the end
Prison Break - as above
Sopranos
Various american funnies - Family Guy, 2 and a half men, the one with the geeks and the blonde girl.

Just wondering if anybody knows of any other series that are worth watching? I hear Lead Balloon is coming back which should be good.

Crash.

Boardwalk Empire is good I think - I'm on E 08 - but not a patch on Shield or The Wire.

You'll be hard pressed to match those two.Did you watch The Pacific first time round?

I'm the same as you - not really a tv fan, but love a good series on boxset. Have you tried:

24 - lost it way a little in a couple of the middle seasons, and the last wasn't brilliant. Overall though excellent!
Battlestar Galatica - I'm not a Sci-Fi fan at all, but this is excellent.
Spartacus - both Blood and Sand and Gods of the Arena are excellent.
The Walking Dead - only had 1 season so far, but worth a looksee
An Idiot Abroad - I'm not a Gervais fan, but this good. It takes the stereotype of a country and shows you it's true whilst making it obvious they've found things in order to achieve their goal.
Dexter - it's annoying in "why are you doing that" and "why aren't you caught" way, but throughly enjoyable and highly recommended.

For shorter 25minute comedies:

Californication - first 3 seasons are great
Entourage - first 7ish seasons are good, last one was dire.
The I.T. Crowd - all very funny.
How Not To Live Your Life - again, can be very funny.
The Big Bang Theory - the perfect comedy show in my book. Great characters, good acting, funny scripts...

As for Boardwalk Empire, I tried it but got quite bored halfway through. It's very much like Sopranos / The Wire in that it's character driven rather than action and just isn't my thing.

Dexter - fabulous
24 - Brilliant
Californication - very enjoyable

Breaking Bad was the other big winner for me, but you know that already of course.

Fringe - X-files type of thing, but you would need to watch it from the start, otherwise you'll be wondering why there are 2 of each character.

Justified & Broadwalk on their way. Mad Men will be the next acquisition.

Cant rate The Wire enough. Is honestly the best thing on TV. The entire script is so deep its so well written with brilliant acting.

Watch the shield but only before the Wire.

Breaking Bad is brilliant. Sons of Anarchy is very watchable but is not as well written as the wire.

Smiler.

Red Riding was excellent imo.

Between the lines (more series 1 than 2) was good in its day.

Dexter is a definite.
You may lose patience with it tho as you'd have 5 series to watch.

Sparta? Blood and sand was it called? Was excellent.

Boardwalk Empire im watching at the moment. Episode 11 next. Gets boring half way through but has picked up the past two episodes.

Band of Brothers.

In fact, anything broadcast by HBO has a quality or two to it.

The inbetweeners and the misfits, both of which can be watch for free via 4 on demand
And for a classic it has to be faulty towers and black adder, just don't bother with series 1 as it's crap!!

Being Human is excellent, the third series is currently showing on BBC3 so the previous two might be on DVD.

Some classics you might have missed...

Singing Detective with Michael Gambon, Boys from the Blackstuff, Our Friends in the North.
