Why? WHY!? FFS!

Ok, I know why. To make money, pure & simple. I realise that Hollywood have almost completely given up on the concepts of 'art' and 'originality', but remakes are still annoying the hell out of me.

To name but three that are pissing me off enormously (possibly irrationally):

Highlander
Bladerunner

and I've just found out....

Footloose

wkers. wkers. wkers.

Highlander was terrible though, cool enough concept but poorly executed.

Could be good. As could the new Conan the barbarian film.

Footloose I couldnt care less about.

But Bladerunner was fantastic and re-making it would be a sin, but are they not making sequels/prequels of it?

I'm a bit miffed there remaking highlander. "There can be only one!"

As long as they don't remake...

Die Hard,
The Warriors,
The Crow,
The Terminator,
and Mad Max.

....I'll be happy.

You know they will, though. It's only a question of 'when'.

The one that gets me is the remake of 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' - a good film, but with subtitles.
So Hollywood will inevitably produce a sanitised, safe, mass-market bland-athon

They also appear to have done the same with 'Let me in' - a watered-down remake of the thoroughly enjoyable 'Let the Right One in'

The Hollywood remake of the French Taxi film annoyed me. With Queen Latifah.

My brother showed me this from a film website, not sure how accurate it is.

Doesn't make good reading for film fans.

I had no idea they remade this, loved the french version. I don't know if I'll watch the new one, I can't stand Queen Latifah.

'Arthur'. Why? Because Russell bloody Brand is going to be so much better than Dudley Moore? FFS.

Wish I hadn't started this now........ frown

It also says that he is in the remake of Drop Dead Fred, no one will ever top Rik Mayall in that role.

But it wasn't a good film. It was mis-cast, and felt cheap throughout. Having watched it, I have no wish to watch the 2nd (and I've read all three books). The whole trilogy wants doing properly.

Coming Soon, to a cinema near you...

Warner Bros is rebooting its 1992 hit The Bodyguard, the film that paired Kevin Costner with Whitney Houston and became for its time one of the biggest global hits in studio history with a $411 million worldwide gross. The film will be scripted by Jeremiah Friedman and Nick Palmer, whose action comedy script Family Getaway made the 2010 Black List and is a priority project at Warner Bros. Dan Lin will produce through his Lin Pictures banner, and Mark Bauch is co-producer. Scripted by Lawrence Kasdan and directed by Mick Jackson, the original was a fairly straight ahead tale of a Secret Service agent (Costner in a Steve McQueen homage, down to his hairstyle) drafted to protect a singing diva whose life has been threatened by a stalker, then falling for her in a way he fears is a distraction from his job. The new version is similar, including the love story, »

Because if there was ever a film worth remaking, that was obviously the fking one, right?

ETA: How about some Raging Bull 2?

But if Hollywood simply insist on 'rebooting' every bloody film they've already made it's going to leave very little choice in stuff to actually watch.
