[Beginning of my 1st Rant]

Just turned over to all these channels hoping for something to engage with. Responsible Programming?

ITV1: Roulette
CH4: Poker
CH5: Super Casino

I dunno.

How about an old film, maybe a documentary of some sorts. Maybe SOMETHING to engage or entertain brain instead of . . . £££

Looking at the time of the night/morning you posted were you really expecting anything else?

Yeah, but I remeber the time, and I'm not that old, that when you were suffering from insomnia or dealing with awkward shift patterns at work that you'd turn the telly on and have an OU lecturer actually teach you something.

Imagine that!

It doesn't have to be this way.

Reduced restriction on gambling has allowed these types of programnmes to be broadcast. They are illegal in the US, as far as I am aware.

I agree totally.

It can't be that difficult to put something more worthwhile than a random roulette table on the telly. I've just got 'freeview' so it's a choice of person in shiny clothes asking for money, news or Dirty Sanchez/Jackass.

Jackass is quite decent for turning the brain off after working late I suppose, but I'd rather learn about plate tectonics or something from a nice man in an Open University lecture as I seem to remember from 'the old days' smile

Does Freeview have iPlayer access? Lots (well, some) sciency stuff on there to watch on-demand.

Not mine, I could get it through the computer/PS3 but that's a bit of a faff for that time in the morning, especially if you want to fall asleep in front of the telly, it's not much fun waking up on a computer chair wink

Whatever happened to Prisoner Cell Block H? Now that was proper late night viewing and even better when it was the only one out of four on that late....

Oh well. It's on the Red Button or in the menus on Virgin (and Sky I presume).

Indeed - Virgin boxes have a quality 'on demand' thing, much more comprehensive than the small 'anytime' Sky sevice that I used to have on their box. Not sure if the Sky is better now.

Seems that gambling (online poker/paddy Power Bingo et al) is fine. Strange in a country that preaches about the consequences of smoking, drinking and eating the wrong foods - but it's OK to sanction the poorest and most vulnerable pissing what little money they have up the wall in gambling! What odd morals we have now....

This is exactly why I don't begrudge paying the TV license fee.

I miss Quizcall frown

Presenter - "We're looking for popular female names beginning with the letter A, oh and we have Mable on the line, what is your answer my darling?"

Mable - "Is it 'Rabbit'?"
