I was watching a bit of "The Break up" on ITV2 last night and in one of the advert breaks they had some entertainment news, in which was said that Warner Bros are already making plans to re-boot Batman after the next and last installment with Bale...

WTF?!
Anyone heard similar...

oh...seems to mash up with The Justice League, where nealry every seuperhero is working on the same team...sounds messy..

Apparently the the rumour is that the next Nolan film takes the story "full circle" and closes the trilogy completely in a way that means the Batman story/Nolan world might not be able to continue and this apparently makes WB quite nervous (Batman dies? Hangs up the cloak? nobody knows).

I can't decide if this reboot is a good thing or not but I do think the Nolan Batman movies are easily (for me) the best t take on Batman ever put on film, and quite possibly the best superhero movies period. So I will be slightly sad when they end.

I really wish they'd stop with this 'reboot' bks. I don't really want to sit throught he same trilogy of films every ten years with simply a cast change.

I would actually look forward to a reboot, I must be the only person in the world who doesn't think the Nolan Batman film were the best thing since sliced bread. Sure the characterisation of Batman and the villians was pretty good but Batman is also a superhero movie and the action and excitement levels were sub par for me. I just don't think Nolan is a very good action director, too many of the action sequences just felt very flat to me.

I'm looking forward to seeing what someone else can do with this franchise.

Tim Burton and Joel Schummacher are examples of 'what someone else can do with this franchise'

The comic books do it too though. And frankly if we'd been left with the original BatMan movie it would have been a shame.

Yes obviously they weren't perfect either and in a lot of ways I think the Nolan versions are superior, however as stated the action scenes just didn't do it for me, he doesn't seem to be able to inject any drama\danger\wow factor element into them which just makes them seem flat. I still don't think I've seen the ultimate version of what I'd rate as a decent Batman movie. Close but no cigar I'm afraid.

Batman is just a man though, are there many other superhero's who are ordinary rich blokes with lots of toys? so the action scenes have to remain a little grounded, so in terms of dark menacing violence and the odd toy based chase or trick I think it hits the mark square on. IronMan is a rich bloke with toys, but his world is FAR less dark and grimey....
Not so keen on tongue in cheek so much....Hulk bouncing round canyons, Spidey swinging from thread that doesn't appear to be attached to anywhere...dunno, subjective subject again eh....

Oh I agree he doesn't have superpowers so the action will be more grounded but there are plenty of action films where the main star is an ordinary bloke but the action is still tense, edge of the seat stuff and top notch. The fight sequences are very bland, I don't think Christian Bale is at fault as I have seen him in other action films and he is usually top notch. They need to get a new stunt\fight cordinator I reckon.

The few car chase scenes etc are also just boring compared to other decent movies. Lastly the big climatic scenes well just aren't. The plot, charactersition and script are almost spot on but as an "action movie" it just leaves me yawning to the point where I actually prefer the talkie bits to the fighting, surely that shouldn't be the case in a superhero movie? I'm not saying turn it over to Micheal Bay but just get someone who can do the slower character pieces as well as the action, Nolan's set pieces just don't excite me I'm afraid.

I think Nolan is involved in the next run too.

It is quite normal for the comic book versions of Batman to have different origins/universes for each story arc.
The next time round on film DC/WB want him in a world of 'Super Heroes' which do not exist in the Batman Begins world.

I would prefer a fresh story line to continuous sequels on this arc which has been fantastic so far.

you make a good point...how did you feel about Inception? still Nolan, but that had me on the edge of my seat...

You didn't appreciate the hospital blowing up. A real, actual massive demolition.

As for the fight scenes I think they are very good. Proper believable hand to hand stuff that reflects the characters psychology.

Some of the action scenes were a bit better so it looks like he has improved somewhat or hired a better stunt team for that film but I still think some of the scenes were missing that certain zing. I'm not a huge fan of the shaky cam but I'd site the Bourne trilogy as having some great, nail biting but still realisticly grounded action scenes and the fight choreography is just amazing stuff. I wouldn't mind seeing what someone like Paul Greengrass of Bourne fame could do with a Batman movie.

The rumour is more than this.

The Justice League movie will be distinct from the others DC / WB properties, ie Green Lantern, and the Superman reboot starring Henry Cavill will be stand alone.

So not only Bat's will be recast, but Superman, GL too. Following logically - dangerous - it would be the same for Wonder Woman, the Flash should their solo movies be given the go ahead?

It's a very different approach to Marvel's joined up universe, however given WB/DC's lack of joined up thinking to date it doesn't surprise.

However while Batman as a stand alone character is a believable hero - at least in the same breath as Robin Hood or Bond, when placed in a Universe where Superman etc. exist Batman becomes the most ridiculous proposition of the bunch.

I imagine he'd succeed in making the audience sick hehe

On the subject of action, I imagine it's rather difficult in that suit?

I don't know all that much about this field, but, seriously? What about Aquaman for goodness' sake?

I like reboots, I like the different visions that can come into it, and now we have Nolan/Bale's version of Batman which is ace.
The problem is when reboots happen almost instantly after a very successful and well appreciated version. It's a bit of a kick in the teeth for fans. Raimi's SPidey run and Nolan's Batman run were great, and we have reboots already? Not only that but the JLA film might not even be in the same continuity? WTF? I do hope they take Nolan's advice and don't go for another origin story, I don't think you could better BB which is a pretty good imagining of Year One. What I would like is something different, The Dark Knight Returns!!
Batman existing against someone like Superman might be problematic on screen, but then Captain America is in the same boat, Avengers may be a good indication of how this works? And don't forget that the powers of heroes can be scaled up or down depending on the story. The telly series Hulk didn't have the tenth of the power of the comic, and the films have only just scratched his strength. Which makes him competing with Cap USA more believable. My worry is that they would need to use too much CGI to make the likes of Bat/Cap the ultimate gymnast to compete.

What is wrong with the Tim Burton films? Is it not him who introduced the wider public to the Dark Knight as opposed to the Caped Crusader?
