Loved it. Really powerful stuff.

My grandad always used to go on about Duncan Edwards and what an amazing player he was and would no doubt have go on to be one of the worlds greatest. It's a nice statue of him in Dudley. True legend immortalised and rightly so.

My Dad often says Duncan Edwards passing was footballs biggest loss of all time and we were denied seeing potentially the best player of his time.

R.I.P.

Very enjoyable.

I thought Tennant was really good.

You didn't need to be a football fan to enjoy it (the trailer had sucked me in).

Surprisingly, Busby didn't feature that much. The key characters were United coach Jimmy Murphy and Bobby Charlton. Murphy came over very well and Charlton was portrayed as a sensitive, but decent chap. I think there has been some criticism of the portrayal of some other characters - Mark Pegg (I think) was continually shown smoking a pipe. The Football League man was made to look bad, but I had thought it was a matter of record that the League tried to stop Man Utd (and other clubs) from playing in Europe and were generally obstructive.

All round, I thought it was very good. The scene at the dance where Charlton was advised not to tell girls he was a footballer, as they would think he had no prospects, was rather amusing. I can imagine though that some older Man Utd fans, such as my Dad (who was at Bobby Charlton's first game), would think it rather pointless and depressing.

Not as far as I can tell. I read something about Matt Busby being "made to look like a gangster" because he was wearing a raincoat/trilby but IMO it doesnt affect the storyline one bit. There was also something about one of the players smoking a pipe in the Tunnel - again irrelevant from a storytelling point of view, even if it wasn't factually accurate.

Agreed - just watched United now and then watched the BBC interview with Sir Matt Busby's son http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-13...

I thought the film was excellent (also as a non football fan) and think Sandy's Busby complaints are a little unfounded personally. As the Beeb say, this was "a drama not a documentary".

I know what you mean. I didn't think it would be as emotional as it was, given how well known the tragedy is. Perhaps it was just the way the characters were brought to life , the individual accents and mannersisms etc. The best bit for me was Jimmy Malone(?) looking down the players tunnel at the FA cup final, seeing the "old" faces instead of their replacements.

Was also nice seeing DS Ray Carling back on screen smile

I wonder how much more mileage the media can get out of this crash?

(I know it's a powerful story but I am a bit tired of it now).

This link tells you about the stained glass window in St Francis' Church Dudley. When I went to have a look, on spec, a few years ago. there was a very nice lady who was just locking up, but took time to re-open the church and let me have a look. Anyone planning to visit would be wise to plan more sensibly.
