Do most channels have someone sitting there waiting for this to happen or does that voiceover chap have other roles in the BBC?

Many of the voiceovers at junctions are recorded onto an audio server but yes, BBC 1 & 2 do have announcers in continuity booths at the playout center at White City.

Great stuff - do they do any other Jobs for the BBC apart from voice stuff? How long do you think the shift is?
