Couldn't see a thread so apols if a repost

On the news I am hearing there was an explosion in a car, there is now a cordon around this car and apparently police officers have been to hospital to be de-contaminated and the hospital has launched a major incident

Also a mile away a block of flats has been evacuated and a cordon put in place

Anyone know anything?

Cheers for the link but it doesn't mention anything about the decontamination

Were they trying to move a bomb and it went off do you reckon? What could you put in a bomb that would mean people need to be de-con?

All sorts of stuff I'd have thought, even traces of asbestos or something could result in people needing to be decontaminated. It isn't going to be a dirty bomb as we understand it is it, if it is then Hartlepool is a rather random target.

I was going to suggest a suicide pact too. one that maybe went wrong? (or right if it actually killed the people)

Just for clarification I wasnt suggesting they were targeting Hartlepool hehe but maybe made a bomb there and were taking it to Manchester or Liverpool and it went pop

Although Steve's suggestion now seems more likely

I think your thread title is over the top and alarmist, based on the small amount of information on the articles. Its quite common for the emergency services to 'over-react' on the side of health and saftey these days, I dont think we should be creating rumours and gossip.

Whats said on the internet stays on the internet, all too long.

I agree to a point, although I was asking a question rather than making a statement of fact

It was an assumption I jumped to and was asking for peoples input and thoughts, I have recieved those and commented that at least one of them I agree could and would be more likely

If I had put a thread title of OBL spotted alive and well planting a bomb in hartlepool with Uranium rods showing, I would agree, but I was just simply asking a question

What bomb are you talking about though? You have no information on a bomb, just an explosion. Asking whether the 'bomb' thats exploded in Harltepool is possibly a 'dirty bomb' gives the reader the impression that a 'bomb' has definatly exploded. We dont know if its a bomb yet, there are a number of reasons as to why an explosion can occur.

Hopefully we will get more info soon, but it must be remembered that most things these days are treated initially as 'worst case' scenarios but turn out to be much less interesting..... hopefully!

Its more apathy to be fair

The way it was reported made it sound more dodgy than perhaps it is, I started a thread asking if anyone had more info and what the causes could be, whether it be a bomb or other cause, I recived some replies one of which appeared to make sense

You came into the thread accusing me of being sensationalist and scaremongery, I explained why I thought this wasn't entirely the case but accepted it could perhaps be read like that, yet you still seem to have twisted knickers about it

Given that this is a thread on a medium sized sub forum on a medium-large sized motoring website I highly doubt me using the word Bomb will cause a Cobra meeting to be called and the threat level to be raised

You seem to be intent on ensuring that I am aware of what a heinous crime I have committed, when in fact you are just a user name on a website and what I typed is just words

So the sum total one cares? is about 0

I believe in modern parlance my reaction to you is - Meh

Not too soon, no.

The first thing that came to my mind was "how could they tell?!"!

hehe

So quick update

Apparently he blew the roof off his car (a Nissan micra)

The police have put a 250m cordon in place around his flat and have evacuated the Marina on the advise of the bomb squad

But hey, I shouldn't be such a sensationalist, maybe he just farted loudly
