TATA: British workers are lazy
Discussion
Ratan Tata, Chairman of the Tata Group, blasted British managers for not going the extra mile, a day after his firm axed 1,500 jobs.

Most UK managers can leave at 5 because they can do their job competently in their contracted hours, not continually f
k things up like their Indian brethren manage to do consistently and inefficiently. If anyone tells you outsourcing to India works on anything other than a cost basis, then they are big fat liars. This is based on years of off-shoring to the numpties.

Dont forget their amazing blame culture...

This is based on years of off-shoring to the numpties. If they come across a bug in code, they spend time tracking the last developer to touch it (even if they did very little to it) then email that person asking for assistance and leave you to it and wait for you to fix it, then complain when you dont do their job for them, but take all the credit.
Had this last 2 weeks when got asked for assistance over the course of 2 weeks with their overnight system working, told them I would assist but understand the issue I needed a list of questions answering... heard nothing for a week so assumed it was fixed and went back to my project... week later they complain Im not helping, so I ask the same questions again and I get the reply of:
'Here are the log on details of the server and here is the location of the logs'
They all go home for the weekend, I think they can sod right off and Im not doing a thing until my queries are answered.
I come in on monday and find their boss has contacted my boss cause I have not helped them at all and solved their problem, they have apparently done all I asked except contact me and tell me and are expecting me to take time out of my project and they are disappointed that Im not a team player and ask my boss to resolve it.
4 hours later I find the issue, they havent installed any drivers on server... what was the first question I asked them???
'Are all the drivers installed on the server and fully working?'
Drivers now installed and their boss sends out an email stating how he fixed it when he realised what was wrong.
All through this my boss has told me not to react to any of their emails and is fully understanding just how pissed off I was... What they dont realise is that we are now getting rid off the whole off shore team as we cant see how 25 people over there can do less work that 2 developers in London and 5 in Belfast.
They signed their own P45 a while ago since putting in some tender for work of 2 weeks for 4 people (which they bill us for 2 months of work) for doing something that we originally estimated would be 3 hours work for one person and even specced it all up with all the changes needed.
Those that are good I really do respect, but most of them are just a waste of our money and they are not cheap anymore.
done now...
I'm guessing that Tata's UK operations, which are I think all former nationalised industries, still have a fair amount of institutional inertia, meaning they run a bit like the civil service. Everything they own in India has been built up from scratch to be competitive.
If the CEO was coming from India for a meeting, and asked for it to be in the evening, I certainly would hang around for him.

Our IT service became exponentially better when it was moved from India to Hungary.

After doing some work at the Teeside Steelworks I know exactly what he means. If the CEO was coming from India for a meeting, and asked for it to be in the evening, I certainly would hang around for him.

Having work with quite a few of the offshore sorry, i meant offsite folk, in my recent roles - they seem to inherited alot of the lazy genes and our civil service mentality. Cheaper - yes, hard-working - not particularly.
'Best shoring' they call it where I am now. I give up.davepoth said:

I think mr Tata may want to learn the difference between working long hours and being productive
But you need to make sure the focus is on "be productive" rather than "work my hours".

Nothing to do with taxation etc then?
Or if it's anything like the company I work for, being able to pay your staff 50p an hourDoomed I tell ye, doomed.
Perhaps Tata's employees on the subcontinent do something else they are quite good at, being economical with the truth and burying their heads in the sand when something goes wrong.
