...But also not a typical leftie luvvie.....

Adele article said:
The answer starts in her interview with Q magazine, where she had the nerve to criticise the 50p tax rate. “I’m mortified to have to pay 50 per cent!”, she said. “[While] I use the NHS, I can’t use public transport any more. Trains are always late, most state schools are st, and I’ve gotta give you, like, four million quid – are you having a laugh? When I got my tax bill in from [the album] 19, I was ready to go and buy a gun and randomly open fire.”

That "Pavement" one is rubbish. IMO. She couldn't sing herself out of a paper bag.

But she got £8m for doing so - not bad.

I like the rampant jealousy from all the lefties on the Guardian site:

No.

She got £8million for the first year of her first album. She only sold 3 million copies of that

She has done quite a bit more since then, her latest album has done 6 million so far.

Not too shabby if you ask me, of all vocalists out there at the moment. Adele is not one you can claim has no singing ability.

It is no big surprise that a lot of big earners leave the country.

from reddit:

This coming from the woman who was basically discovered and dragged up through the BBC/Arts Council-funded-British-Record-Industry-Trust? Winning awards left and right that are funded in part by the british tax payer through the Arts Council? Signed by Virgin Records which was in its infancy supported by the Arts Council. Or am I thinking about someone else?
I quite enjoy her music, but she seems a bit like a self-important-entitled-dipst if she thinks herself not using busses is reason for her to not pay taxes when this country has funded her rise to fame so far.

The school is funded similar to all other schools, not arts council, not BBC. Just a music and theatre school.
Some awards are funded by tax payers, most not. Not a huge expense though.
Virgin records had nothing to do with the Arts Council.

You have to agree giving half your income away is a bit extreme and it is the reason people will keep finances abroad which will result in a loss to the economy.

I wonder what her position was before she had to give away 50% of her earnings? People seem to change their opinion once they are on the other side of the fence.

If the top earners feel they are better off abroad, and as such they are unwilling to pay taxes, they should have their passports and all rights as a British citizen revoked IMO. [/controversial]

It is all 'Why cant you pay up...you are making big bucks anyway'.....until you actually work hard and make some money.

Then it is ' why should i pay half of what i make?'...all for low tax and small essential services at best value for tax payer.

Solution...encourage people on the lower income scale to work harder and make more money! This is a perfect example of how the leftie turns around when there is some cash in the pocket!

I just thought it was quite refreshing, regardless of what her political persuasions may be, to read an honest account of how she feels, and not resorting to the same tired sound bytes so often heard from others in her position. At least she’s honest.

Why can't she go on public transport, is it because she's too fat?

Seriously, I wouldn't recognise her if I managed to sit on the 1/4 of a seat she'd left for me.

I don't actually agree with her sentiments - but what REALLY goads me are those multi-millionaire celebrity types who praise the welfare state and then syphon off all their earnings into offshore tax havens.

At least she's not being hypocritical.

laugh - if I earned anywhere near what she earns i'd ditch this country like a sack of st. Straight to Monaco or Switzerland for me.

You can visit here as much as you like - just can't work here more than x days......easy of you're a musician or a racing driver
