Here's the latest one. A couple of things strike me:

1. A rush on cheap beer in Scotland....should we be surprised?

2. Are Tesco deliberately manufacturing these "errors" as loss leaders in order to get more people scouring their price deals?

I have been told by a Tesco employee (who would defiantly know) that it was a cock up in India, as all pricing is outsourced there, and it isn't the first time!

Going by what i've seen on a few other forums, it appears a lot of things are scanning at a very low price.

It seems to be the case that the item goes throught at the difference between the original price and the reduced price. For example: DVD @ 11.99, reduced by 1.99 to £10.00... item scans at £1.99.

Fair bit of £££ lost by them untill its all fixed I'd imagine!

When I worked at Tesco cockups were fairly common they were usually caused by 2 things

1) the label hadnt been changed by staff - so the consumer was charged a higher/lower price

2) special offers had somesort of mathematical cock up or the offer was just wrong in soem way - this is what appears to have happened here.

When we spotted either error we would correct them ASAP so any notions of somesort of conspiracy are probably a bit misguided.

Plenty of people spend a lot of time just looking for bargains.. Those self scan things, there are people who go round just looking to see if they come up cheap on the gadget....

You have to wonder, if people put in the same sort of effort and ingenuity at work, whether they may not be better off all round.

Now, I rather suspect that those who spend their time running around the supermarket doing this don't have a full time day job to rush back to.....................

A few weeks ago Tesco were running a 'Double The Difference' campaign - if a competitor such as Asda had the same product for less, Tesco would issue a voucher for twice the difference, up to a total of £20 per receipt. A spreadsheet was produced daily on Money Saving Expert with the best value products, some of which Tesco ended up paying customers to take away. We ended up about £400 up by the time Tesco pulled the plug.

interestingly it's illegal for a trader to advertise at a lower price and sell it at a higher one, so if something is mis-priced and you are given a higher bill, you are entitled to the advertised price.

Incorrect. The vendor can refuse the sale.

I have seen this come up a couple of times and the vendor has little chance of getting their money back once the customer has paid and the customer has taken the goods.

I understood that the vendor had no chance of withdrawing once the till was closed as that was the end of the transaction. However, as pointed out, he doesn't have to sell a mispriced item, or indeed any item.

Tesco has had some hefty fines for advertising at one price and having higher prices in the store.
