So, i was watching Uk border force today and they were in calais and were testing the lorry trailers for co2 and whilst doing this, they mention that they catch around 30 illegal immigrants a day. That works out at around 11000 (what my brains telling me anyway) and my question is, when they have put them on the system and done what they need to do, what do they actually do with the illegals, do they send them back to afghanistan, india etc. Or do they send them to france again or put them in prison?

Thanks biggrin

Edit - bad spelling, ipods are impossible to type on.

been a while since I saw UK Border Force.

Basically on Frances side if they are caught they are basically kicked out of that area and are free to keep trying again.

I am not sure if they physically take them back to their original country but even so I remember watching stories of someone caught on the 4th attempt so they will keep trying as they have nothing to lose.

In the UK, detention centre then on a plane (usually pretty much in handcuffs etc.) if they do not have a legitimate asylum claim. Different for under 18s, people very ill when they arrive or refugees, obviously.

In Oz they go to immagrant prison. Then set it on fire.

That's if they make it here first. Not many do.

I still don't know how anyone can come from france to the UK then claim asylum.
The law on asylum states you have to claim it at the first safe country you reach, not the one you fancy the look of the benefits system in.

Some countries appeal more than others, of course so understandable why they come here (it's clearly not a craphole like some would like to imply).

Apart from that, if I were fleeing persecution, would I go to a neighbouring country or would I want to get as far away as possible! biggrin If you were a jew in the 1930's, would you want to flee to Poland/France/etc. or would you want to get as far away as possible, USA for example?

There's a balance to be struck and asylum seekers should be spread over countries helping them else the neighbouring country gets swamped.

Anyway, I thought the discussion was about illegal immigrants, not asylum seekers.

I think as far a large proportion of the UK population are concerned, there's very little difference, if any. I must say I can understand why, too.

Wow. I've woefully overestimated this forum. That's an incredible thing to type.

Indeed. I'm sure there was a forum agreement to stop the whole 'simples' thing as it wasn't funny.

Are you really serious?

I wasn't!

I'll delete the 'Simples' bit if it causes offence!
