Do they have an AGM or something? Do they release smoke like the Vatican?
They do it with a game of Musical Chairs. Last man standing gets to be target.
More to the point is why do 'we' need to announce it?
The Beeb led it as their first news today:
'Al-Qaeda has elected a new leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri, following the death of Osama Bin Laden.'
(elected should probably read 'appointed'
)
So what?
I couldn't give a damn, in fact it plays into their hands giving them publicity on the world stage.

You're right in what you say. and that was my first thought but someone always wants to be first to broadcast/publish a news item. On the other hand, if I was him I wouldn't want the world to know, for fear of being shot dead in my underpants.The Beeb led it as their first news today:

The reporting is hilarious, but also a bit worrying. The BBC are reporting it exactly as if a new leader had been elected to the Labour party or something. They've had various commentators pretending they know the first thing about the organisation and the person, but really just talking s
t. I say worrying because they've lent a certain amount of credibility to a few men sat in a cave somewhere getting angry.
