I've just been pointed in the direction of the folllowing site, which offers a nice map of innovation diversity, momentum and magnitude for cities around the world.

What a surprise to see European, and British cities in particular, languishing at the bottom left corner of the map. We're basically not innovating, not growing and not diversifying.

How do we fix that one then?

By fixing the economic mess left by Labour. Otherwise the banks will not provide loans to innovators etc. It will take many years.

I'd say the education system is to blame here, it's about 100 years out of date and fails everyone from the intellectual ones to the thick-as-st cant-be-arseds because the clever ones are held back and disillusioned by desruptive behaviour from the idiots, much of what is taught is completely irrelevant to anyone who isn't very intelligent and it has little or no basis in the real world. Couple that with the fact that the education culture now is something along the lines of 'everybody must do well otherwise it's unfair' and you have a recipe for a disillusioned younger generation with no drive.

The shiney arses (accountants, etc.) rule the roost.

What need is there for innovation, inspiration, dedication etc etc when you can get a roof over your head and food in your stomach just by holding a British passport.

Innovation and growth Is driven by adversity. There is no adversity in the UK regardless of what bleeding hearts say.

There is no need for anyone to do anything. As such things are only done by those who have personal drive and ambition.

Nothing can or will change until politicians stop pandering to the electorate and start standing up and busting some balls.
