Leave it, grandad.

We've done this to death.

The twuntmups at BAe thought they could keep hoodwinking the muptwunts in the MoD forever, and the cash would never stop flowing.

When asked by CMD "how much?, and when?" to make it operational, they couldn't even be arsed to come up with a plausible lie.

Just don't get me started on this one again mad

It is this generation's TSR2.

Cameron totally screwed up the Defence Review, taking his own direction ignoring the Chief of Airstaff and Liam Fox who supported Nimrod to the hilt, and ordered it to be scrapped. Remember it was highlighted in the strongest possible terms that is was part of anti-terror operations, protecting our Submarines, and part of our Falklands reinforcement plan.

Have no doubt if he could, he would have also scrapped our brand new aircraft carriers.

The War in Libya is a total cock up, and is showing that the military post SDSR, is no longer capable of keeping up its "world police" role.

Why after hacking the MIlitary back to the point where it is creaking at the seams, do we commit to another war without an exit strategy?

When senior people in the Military state that they can't keep up the war any longer than September, they are told by Cameron to "Do the Fighting and He'll do the talking." Just shows what a cretin he is.

The war in Libya had now cost £250 million with no end in sight, Osborne originally said it would not run into hundreds of Millions. Countries like France and Italy are having second thoughts, and if Italy pull support and use of bases we will have no Carrier or fixed wing aircraft to launch from them.

The man in the street was saying the Libya conflict was unwinnable from the air, and the Goverment were singing from different hymn sheets as to whether Gadaffi was a target or not. They have got the Libya campaign (along with the SDSR) totally wrong and I think Cameron's attack on the Armed Forces shows that he is getting aggitated, and perhaps realises he has Fcensoredd up and lost support from the majority of the Armed Forces.

While this is on a further two Tornado squadrons have disbanded.

Meanwhile they are insitant the SDSR will not be reopened, and rumours are further cuts to the military may well be on the way.

The Libya campaign has certainly not gone according to plan (if there ever was one) - but what do you think would have been different if we still had an RAF the size it was in 1970?..or the MRA4?

Yes mate, I know where you're coming from, but it's a step too far [not you, the tts in power] to loose the capability period.

I know the home counties are sheltered, but this needs to be looked at from the overall perspective of the UK.

See you got the coin box emptied though wink

Actually, although we disagree on most things, I think we are singing from the same hymn sheet in that we agree that we should not be the world police force at the beck and call of the US.

However, I believe that we should be robust in OUR defence of the UK, and that overwhelming MIGHT, is actually quite cool when it comes to the defence of our shorelines, however distant.

The MRA4 would not have been fully in service at the moment so would have had no impact to the current situation, but we do have a capability gap that somehow we couldn't afford, but we magically find hundreds of millions to go to war in Libya.

It is not just about Nimrod though, it highlights deep flaws in Government decision making, seen on key areas such as Defence, NHS, Prison Reforms etc, where they have not listened and ploughed on regardless. Unlike the latter two where they have u-turned, they continue to go along the path of not reopening the SDSR.

Shortly we could find that we are not going to have enough aircraft or crews on rotation to support the Libya and Afghanistan conflicts.

Senior people are questioning the feasibility of the long term operations in Libya, but Cameron is virtually telling them to "shut up."

You just have to read forums and news reports to get the indication morale in our armed forces is rock bottom.

Reckon I've got more Highland and Island over-water time than you in the last few months, Mo. wink

There wasn't a moment I was thinking that chucking another few hundred million down BAe's throat was going to save my sorry Home Counties arse if the donkey died. There were a lot of moments regretting that I'd failed to notice that Islay only sell avgas for 30 minutes a day at the weekend, but there you go.

This is 2011. If we ever get to the point we need to prosecute Russian attack submarines in the North Atlantic, we'll have already frozen to death because they turned the natural gas supply off three months previously.

Cameron's comment the other day was plain offensive. Oddly, he thought differently when he was in opposition and trying to buy votes:

In March 2010 during PM’s Questions in the House of Commons, David Cameron, then leader of the opposition, listed military figures and civil servants who had attacked the PM Gordon Brown for defence spending shortages.

Cameron said: “Why do you think all these people, dedicated to defence of this country, are wrong?”

The man is totally out of his depth and stands shoulder to shoulder with fkwit Brown as the most inept PM we've ever had.

I'm betting it didn't do enough to justify the money spent on it.
