We're planning something for monday - BBC weather forecast and Yahoo forecast for the day are shown as of 15 minutes ago. Do we take shorts and flip flops or sou'westers??

What the hell is it with forecasters in this country??

You should go with whatever the Met Office say. All the staff are about to get a share of £1.5m as they “met or exceeded” all its targets.

Mainly sunny, 20% chance of a thunderstorm though. Seems both of yours are right but come from opposite sides of the glass having 50% in it argument.

Well, there's a low pressure system moving over the north atlantic, with a great big front that's going to sweep across the country "at some point".

That is all you can tell.

My most reliable forecast in this scenario says it's not going to rain until tuesday, and when it does, it's going to rain all day.

Timings may move, but the pattern is right. Those two forecasts are basically saying the same thing, just disagreeing on when.

There's nothing wrong with the weather forecasters "in this country", you're just trying to oversimplify something very complex soapbox

Yeah, I read this today - what a crock of bks.

How the fk can weather forecast be target related, unless we're talking about some of the female presenters doing that thing with the ping-pong balls.

I note that they also managed to miss the coldest winter for years, so perhaps it hasn't got anything to do with the weather.

You think it is better anywhere else? Skiing in Colorado the weather forecasts are a complete joke, they don't seem to be able to give a rough idea of what is going to happen in a few hours let alone days.

I'm sure the MetOffice did meet their targets for mentioning 'climate change' and for number of simpletons converted to the cause!

Wait, what, so they're all getting £10k? For doing their jobs?

ETA: No, average of £700 each.

www.yr.no

Yes, it may seem strange consulting a Norwegian site for British weather.

But it's just about the best weather site I've found.

Indeed.

Or go to Expert Charts on www.weatheronline.co.uk and use the NAE short term high resolution charts to do your own forecast.

I find this fairly accurate most times; and much more useful than static maps and graphics.
