I'm pretty sure the first alien life we encounter will be microbial rather than vaguely humanoid hehe

That scientist needs to look closer to home for 'vaguely humanoid lifeforms'.

Middlesbrough perhaps? biggrin

Wording can do wonders.
I think the idea of discovering extra solar life forms within the next 20 years is a possibility. Meeting them face to face is however very unlikely in the near future. Unless they are way more advanced than we are and come here.

So... 20 years until we meet them, and then they will destroy us all with their death rays... Great.

There is plenty of 'vaguely humanoid lifeforms' sharing our planet already, and I am in no hurry to meet them face to face.

Call me Nostradamus, but I predict that photo of a Lib-Dem local party gathering will be appearing on this thread before the day is out, as proof positive that (vaguely) pan-humanoid aliens are not only here among us, they're also galactic-class nobbers when it comes to politics.

Encounter...just how close...does he mean we'll get to eavesdrop on their ancient communications? The chances of that are high, the chance of shaking three fingers with a simpsonism from space is far more remote.

Oh god, please don't, I don't really want to have to see my breakfast again.

I know you'll be desperate to ask them if they'd prefer to drive a RenaultSport Megane or a Rodius wink

Within the next 20 years?

Obviously statistics is not their strong point, out of the thousands/millions of years of life on the planet why chance would make them visit between 2011 and 2031?? Clearly rubbish.

They either arrived a _long_ time ago, or not at all.
Plus of course - they may be us.

Well I could say that the Hive queen is emerging from her host.

But before I photoshopped it she was just yawning.
