Shocking:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-bristol-14005...

Even more shocking as I was there at the time, I had gone to pick up my Fiance and her sister after their 'night out' as they weren't enjoying themselves (I think they expected a carnival not a load of drunk people looking for trouble)!

I was stopped at the side of the road, 2nd pic in the link above I was just out of shot on the right of the pic, same side of the road as the pub. Waiting for them to get in the car, they were taking their time as a friend they were with was waiting for her lift and they didn't want to leave her by herself.

In the mean time they were getting a little edgy after hearing some guys walking by saying things like 'has he got the gun blud' and 'quick, get the cars, lets go'. I couldn't hear much as I was inside my car with only the passenger side window down.

What I was most astonished at is how quickly everyone left without anyone noticing. One minute there were hundreds of people in and outside the pub, the next minute it was deserted but strangely there were no crowds rushing down the road and no obvious influx of cars coming and going. Very strange atmosphere.

It was at that point that the friends lift arrived so we all went home completely oblivious that anything had happened as we hadn't heard any gunshots, quite frankly I don't know if you could over the volume of the music! (and yes, I do know how loud a gunshot is)!

From what my Fiance and her sister had heard/the people they had spoken to (so may not be of any truth) is that there was a large gang of people who had come from London that evening, looking to show Bristol their 'status' or something.

Either way it's a truly shocking crime, especially if the victim was chosen at random.

Apologies for the long post!

Having passed through St Pauls, I am not surprised. When I got cut up by a car in front I was strongly advised by a friend to avoid eye contact completely. (Which would have been a challenge with the limo tint cladded glass)

I witnessed similar (minus the shooting!) when I worked in the Midlands. It was basically groups of youths from different estates trying to be the hardest 'gang'. I saw several brawls between varying groups trying to take on a new 'patch' (or that's what I gathered anyway laugh )

I had the feeling that drug dealing was involved with several of them, but not all, some simply wanted a punchup confused

Why am I not suprised that it was there. Its a dodgy hell hole of a place and the only place I have felt truely scared in the UK and I spend half my week in the dodgy areas of Belfast and grew up in a time when there were a lot of bombs and riots.

Honestly if your a parent it makes you fear the worst about where your kids go out and possibly what uni they go to.

Imagine the poor parents (and more so if the victim was chosen at random). Kind of makes you want to live in nicer and safer areas where that just isn't likely of happening. Plus ban them from anywhere dodgy infact PAY them to go elsewhere.

A quick tour of the area via streetview lends credibility to this.

Have your sister and fiance contacted police regarding what they overheard and a possible description of the two men? This could be valuable evidence.

Plenty of stabbings in that bit of Easton (it's not St Pauls!) during the last 2 years. I worked from there until last month. There's a large unemployed ethnic population with territorial issues.

There are also plenty of decent people there trying to get by in life who are tainted by this silly warfare.

Sad but it's the way it's gone.

Having lived in Reading for 15 years, London for 2 years and Bristol for 10, I will take Bristol every time. Yes, this is a tragedy, however its only a relection of a tiny percentage of what Bristol is about. Its an amazing place to live. Every city has its downsides.

Ok, im finished defending it and off for a cider on my combine.

To be fair if you lived in a few bits of London over the ame period you'd realise Bristol is nothing in comparison.
