Surely if burning fossil fuels raises the temperature, evetually we won't need to burn as much because it's warmer and then the temperature will drop again?

Reminds me of acid rain in the nineties - rainforest the size of Wales cut down every day yada yada, by 2005 we'll have to wear gas masks to go shopping yada yada, crops will only grow indoors yada yada.

These daft short term studies really piss me off. Climate change is happening and always has, our climate has never been stable its a highly dynamic system. I have no doubt that humans are influencing climate change, but we certainly are not causing it. A ten year time frame is not an indication of climate at all. typical Arm waving, headline grabbing bullst from PNAS

The only trouble is, they've really got us by the bks on this one. The government can easily justify the high costs of running a car with all this rubbish, in the do-gooder's views it is reducing the amount we all use our cars which to them is only a good thing, meaning people support the actions and the costs continue to rise. Everyone's a winner, apart from the innocent motorists.

The oil is going to be burnt up anyway, whithin 1000 years, about all the oil is on the surface of the earth as a product or burnt up, so if you don't enjoy burning up the oil, the next generations will.
That's one of my purposes in life, enjoy burning up oil by driving big and fast cars before somebody else does!

I totally agree, I study the climate from the Carboniferous through to the Jurassic as part of my PhD. CO2 levels were whole orders of magnitude higher than present. the only agruments are that the rate of release is very high and we don't have the same carbon sinks as back then, however we are far from fked.

Try reading my post and then get back to me. I make no value judgements about acid rain, I simply quote three phrases which were continually repeated by the media at the time until everyone got sick of the topic.

I like this one, it is flame bait enough to get the backs up on some greenies but also makes some sense so cannot be put down easily.
