I expect this was 27,000 signatures petitioning them to keep the original times. The fact it cleared a minimum (20k?) meant that they had to have another meeting, which went along the lines of this.

"So, we've had to meet again, I'm missing the snooker. So are we all agreed on our original proposal?"
"Yep, missing the snooker, too."
"Yep, wife not happy, she's taking the dinner out now."
"Aye, fk 'em."
"Proposal upheld."

Chances are most people that use the library such as the elderly or kids after school can go there by 5.

Many libraries are staffed by volunteers. Why don't you volunteer?

I personally don't see the point in libraries in this day and age. Useless for reference and fairly limited selection for fiction.

Perhaps those that do see the point of them could pay say £1 per book to keep these places open. That way the majority that don't use them don't have to keep subsidising them.

btw, same principle with post offices

I use my local one now and again for textbooks that cost £30+ to buy.

Essex Libraries will loan you audiobook downloads and e-books as well, here.

All you need is your library card number.

Around a third of library authorities offer simillar services so far: collections are limited, but generally growing fast.
