Did the lorry catch fire in a traffic jam - otherwise I cannot comprehend how or why this happened!

I've seen a few lorries through the years with tyres on fire I expect through loss of pressure and on a big rig the driver may not notice.

Also we don't know if it was the load. Going to be a PITA for those using the tunnels for the next few days, glad no one was hurt.

Knowing that area well, this is going to be a fking nightmare if they're still closed during rush hour tomorrow. I'd add two hours to your journey for anyone attempting to cross the bridge tomorrow.

Looks like an old DAF from the photo, maybe down to an electrical fault? Problem is, if it starts under the cab, you can't just open the bonnet like a car and it takes time to tilt the cab.

Went through at 2000h tonight, there's a contraflow set up through one lane of the eastbound tunnel. Everything flowing smoothly, don't know what rush hour may bring though.

Yeah what a nightmare, I got stuck on the A449 for an hour, took me 2 and half hours to go no more than 20 miles, that said come rush hour I had to head into Newport and it was bliss, everyone had avoided the M4 like the plague and Newport was dead, there was feck all traffic at 5.30-6.00pm it was awesome.

Update: now fully reopened. Not a bad turnaround actually to be fair to them.
