If you believe they should have their benefits withheld then vote on this Government "epetition"

http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/7337

Apparently if the petition gets 100,000 votes the Government have to review the suggestion. I'm not suggesting it will do any good in the long run but you never know...........

The trouble is what are they going to do if they don't get benefits? Steal? (yes I know the obvious answer is get a job but lets be realistic here)

Surely this all depends on which country you deport them back to?

Not if they are paralysed or dead.

I'm sorry but if you think it is acceptable to be out doing this then I actually think you should not have the right to life and your organs should be donated after being put down.

He isnt saying its acceptable. He is correctly pointing out that if they have no income, they will steal to get what they need. Even if there are jobs available, who will want to employ a convicted theif?

And this is the problem. A custodial sentence is pointless. It's basically being locked in a hotel with your friends. Free gym, too, I hear.

Prison is a massive deterrent for people like us because we'd lose a lot but not for the sort of people who think it's fun to destroy someone's business that someone's dedicated years to build up (not because they've got anything in particular against said individual but because they don't care).

Take away benefits and they'll do more of the same or take stuff from us by force. There is no nice deterrent for these people.

heh e-petitions site has "a much higher level of demand than we expected."

Might get the biggest ever response?

The death penalty. I think that's nice for them.

If not actually being refused benefit, they should certainly be compelled to do something useful to receive it. Not talking chain gangs or anything, but x hours of useful public service a week, be it litter picking, cleaning grafitti or pulling shopping trolleys out of rivers. Anything to keep them off the streets for a period of time. Who knows, get a bit of "sweat equity" invested in the area and they might think twice before smashing it up again. Don't do your x hours? No benefit. The argument they'd just go on the rob doesn't really hold water, as they've done that anyway!

Yeap, instead of just being handed the cash they should be made to put in a days work on community projects. No work, no money.

Agreed. Prison is pointless. Mandatory community work is the way forward, and lots of it. Being watched by a shotgun toting sheriff with mirror shades optional. There's lots of stuff to be fixed up.
