What will the inquiry into the riots reveal??
Discussion
The authorities know perfectly well that they cannot afford to pay for the level of policing that would prevent this sort of thing from happening in the first place. I believe they have a policy already, which is to recognise that they have no choice but to let it happen, whereupon it either will burn itself out or, if not, they increase the level of policing in the affected areas until the rioters think better of it.
Absolutely nothing, they'll push bullsh*t around the room for weeks and months on end like dung beetles in suits, decide there's a shed load of changes need making.
Then one party of people will get their arse in their hands about the changes, so they'll debate it some more, rewrite the plan, someone else will be put out by it etc. Eventually it'll become completely watered down and be little use to anyone, the senior ranks of the plod will be unable to act on most of it until they get a budget rise or more officers, which won't happen, so they'll review the plod's procedures (again), which will achieve nothing, maybe pass a couple of crap bits of legislation saying no gangs of 500 hooded youths allowed out after 2am, claim it as a victory of sorts despite everyone knowing fine well it's just more grandstanding to please the masses that does nothing other than get some media time, and the whole miserable cycle of disparity between grandstanding politicians and bureaucracy / red tape stifling any possible attempt at positive social, legal and political change will continue.
Events transpired will be treated as unlikely to happen again, with a post it note stuck into the report that says if it does, we'll do the same again but those naughty bobbies will act a bit quicker. That covers the police enquiry, then there'll be lots of talking about the socio-economics of it all, and how the youth of today feel betrayed and it's not their fault really.
Fast forward a few years and the opposing party will use this in their manifesto as something the previous shower failed miserably to tackle, they'll use big, powerful words and lots of serious expression, possibly even some wild pointing into their desk while proclaiming that the last lot have failed the people and the country's broken, then they'll win some votes, get some power and realise much like the current bunch have, that there's not a damn thing they can do in reality because....shock horror.... it's much harder to unf*ck a situation than it is to f*ck it, and reversing overbearing legislation isn't as easy as clicking an unsubscribe link in your email.
Repeat ad infinitum.

Yes. and the words "disenfranchised youth", the poor darlings. "Robust"
If i had a penny for each time those f
king phrases have been used in the last year, I would be rich.In answer to the OP, I do not think anything will be learnt from this that we do not already know - i.e. Our country is going to the dogs, hell in a hand cart etc etc. What I would *hope* is that this will re-enforce that something (anything) needs to be done, and needs to be done soon. Without paraphrasing a million threads we have all started before, our country is galloping up diarrhoea drive without a saddle.
I lose count of the number of conversations I have had with mates in which i have commented on the lack of respect and morals in society in general these days - predominantly from "the yoof". I am 37, and I feel like an old man saying this but I simply do not remember a time growing up when I would have dreamed of doing things that happen on a daily basis in our towns and cities these days (and I am not talking about the recent events). The notion of respect for your elders and respect for your fellow citizens seems to be gone.
The foreboding groups of 14 - 18 year olds on the street corners acting like gangsters, the happy slapping, the knife/gun culture. The simple fact that I seem to be alone in nodding to the smartly dressed old boy walking towards me and saying "Morning", because I think he deserves that respect and acknowledgement. The brazen cheek of a group of (guessing 15 - 17 year olds) commenting on my "nice car" then approaching me, all front to tell me they will be back to "nick that tonight, coz Im a teef man innit". The idea that queens english is not required any more.
Etc etc etc.......
I spoke to a friend yesterday, basically venting because I am currently working in Birmingham staying in town close to the nonsense, and frankly it boils my piss in a major way to see what is being played out across the country on our streets every night. Said friend is far more clever than I, a hermit, and something of a sagely soul. I said to him "seriously, am I becoming a grumpy old man - and is the world going mad ?. I do not remember life being like this as I grew up, is it just that we have now reached an age where we are more cognisant of the troubles in society - was this the same for our fathers and grandfathers before us ?, or is this something new".
He replied "No, this is something new. Within the last 30 years our society has changed to one which calls for rights (and benefits) *without* the associated responsibilities".
I think hes right, and I dont understand how we ended up in a position with a leftie PC, "dont upset their human rights for goodness sakes" government which allows the situation to mature - like a dog turd growing mould.
As I say, (and, apologies I realise i have lost my own thread and the OP's so I am attempting to bring myself back on track) I truly hope that the recent events causes not just the government but society in general to stop and think what the cause of this is - (and I DONT mean the invalid notion that some scrote with a gun got himself shot dead) and hopefully what we need to do to change it.
We should *never* be in a situation where teenagers think (and I quote) "we are showing the government, the police, and the rich people that we can do WHATEVER we want when we get together, and they cant stop us". Also - to clarify, this current situation is NOT a riot - rioting is a form of political protest gone wrong descending into violence, this on the other hand is semi organised criminal action of a group of people who think its ok to "steal some free s
t innit" rather than doing the hard work required to earn the money to buy it, have a ruck, and destroy other peoples property for little or no reason other than the "thrill" of it. Sadly they have learnt in the last few days that our lefty PC government has rendered our Police force toothless, creating the opportunity to commit crime without punishment. I hope it leads to change. I just have no idea what *change* is required.
Sad times.

ps - sorry for ranting.

As rants go, fairly poor. It was far too reasoned.
The big, big problem we have is that we've made an idle life a bit too comfortable.
For more or less all of these "people", work is going to mean a poorly paid s
t job since they aren't educated. With a choice of "s
t job that pays less than benefits" and "loaf all day" I know which I would pick.I expect the police will get the blame, its easy to say they didn't do enough, but when they do, do more they get blamed like in the G20/may day/student protests, its a loose/loose situation for them.
I like to complain about the police as much as the next bloke but being honest, they have a hard job and no matter what they do, they will get it in the neck, hopefully this will kick start a new series of harsher laws and policies from government and much more support for the police.

I think the police will once again be the fall guy here sadly.
lack of "connection" with the local communities. lack of information coming from them. slow response etc
I'm hoping they will see through the fact this wasnt some political/social statement but criminal behaviour.

Sadly, it'll come out as some modern toss along the lines of "disallousioned youth" and "inequality".
I just wish that the real solution would be accepted by somone - give the police back some power, and next time shoot the b
ds with rubber bullets / baton rounds / bag shells, then give the main instigators 12 lashes in a public square.
Young Ryan won't look so bloody hard to his mates when he's crying in public and in considerable pain. Might make him think twice about smashing the next bus stop.

When politicians and celebrities are seen breaking the law of the land over expenses etc. why do you think a poor kid in Toxteth should try and be an upstanding citizen? The rot starts at the top.
THISLook at the interviews, look at Johnstomn, Livingstone, Warsi, Abbott, Miliband and Cameron, what have they done, not said but actually done? nothing but political point scoring.
Look at the Police who have lost their money on booked holidays while MPs are covered for recall to Parliament
I've just heard that excuse for a man Cameron blame teachers for this, teachers!! FFS!! the only reason he isn't blaming the police is because it'll be a f
king meltdown.The country is f
ked because no one from Blair and Cameron to that f
king airhead mother of a skiprat can admit they have any responsibility, everyone is out for themselves from the top down. WHY ARE WE SURPRISED?Bing o said:

There is a point there in what you say however, bit of a difference in fiddling with expenses and burning people out of homes and businesses.Do you tar those who break the speed limit by a few MPH with the same brush as drunk drivers who kill?

Little Kyle steals a pair of trainers; his MP stole f
