Cameron on BBC NW Tonight program
Discussion
The more I see and hear of Cameron the more he seems to say what I want to hear.
Ive longed for someone to take this country by the scuffs and give it a dam good shake until all the dirt comes off.
When challenged by Gordon Burns on the proposition to take away or restrict offenders rights to a council property his response was along the lines of '....Well they should have thought of that before they went out robbing the community' He went on to say that we (the nation) have been far too soft for far too long and this has cultivated a nation of irresponsible, lazy scroungers.
Hear, hear! Lets hope it materialises instead of just being tough talking political posturing.
EDIT - Here we go

That is only because he is reading the newspapers and the internet.Edited by Pig Skill on Friday 12th August 19:57
He wasn't saying these things a week, or a year ago.
He is a vacuous shell who is probably more interested in his next expenses claim than he is in the future of Salford.
He has managed to go from "Hug a hoodie" to "We will hunt you down" without the faintest hint of shame.
The only reason that Cameron is saying things that you want to hear is that yesterday's papers, blogs, and social networking sites said things that you want to hear. If the media change direction tomorrow, then you will find that Cameron moves away from your POV.
You would be far better of supporting politicians who have real beliefs.

So what exactly should he of done then ?
I'm not really a supporter or otherwise, but he gave police authority to use water canons, rubber bullets should they feel the need and has put up money to help those affected.
Would you be happier if he said "hug a chav looter, they are people too" ?

He came out with soundbites in the knowledge that water cannon and rubber bullets would never be used. I'm not really a supporter or otherwise, but he gave police authority to use water canons, rubber bullets should they feel the need and has put up money to help those affected.

He's as phoney as Tony but not as sharp.
I won't believe a word of it until he repeals the Human Rights Act and replaces it with something more sensible. Then stiffens up sentencing and builds more prisons. And gives us the previously promised European referendum. And and and...
It will never happen.

that france and Germany routinely ignore and ensure we do to.
No more suspended sentences, you commit a crime you pay.
Mandatory sentences, 8 years for carrying a knife, 12 for a gun.
Remove red tape, chop the quangoes in half, remove bonuses from the public sector, bla bla rinse and repeat.

...and..and..and you won't be happy until Cameron gives in to your demands and installs you as Witchfinder General.
If Cameron is going to make a go of it, he needs to be far more proactive.
This is his opportunity to show the nation what he can do and what needs to be done.
By taking the lead here, he could leave any contenders way behind.
But I don't think he's got the balls we once thought he had.
He's becoming a political monkey like the rest of them, make all the right noises in parliament and that will do.
Well it won't do at all. Given the riot fiasco, just imagine what it would be like if the people who took to the streets had a legitimate bee in their bonnet.
Sort the fecking country out Cameron, or your history, along with this once great nation.

He's a Blair clone. Tells you what you want to hear. I mean, his personal intervention saved us from the rioters didn't it!
Plenty even call him Bliar 2. This is the 'real' man... an EU man, a man that is 'all for turning'.

I can tell you France and Spain completely ignore fishery policy. Their fishing boats totally rape the sea in areas they shouldn't be in and the French and Spanish Governments aren't interested in the slightest.that france and Germany routinely ignore and ensure we do to.
He hasn't handled the riots at all well.
He criticsed the police for not realising instantly that this was a whole new level of criminality yet we had him continuing his holiday, presumably because he didn't realised that this was a whole new level of criminality.
I can't blame him for his underestimation of the problems so perhaps he should do the same for others.
The biggest police force in the country, one with lots of authority and special tasks, has lost two commissioners in short time. The first one showed some major political pressure on the post.
At a time of the biggest threat to this country with regards public order we had no commissioner of the Mets.
So what does Cameron, helped ably by the ever disasterous May, do? He gets Orde, largely tipped as the next commissioner, to criticise the government. Godwin, acting at the moment, is also in the frame. He's gone on record attacking the pm.
Orde has let it be known that he will only be commissioner on his own terms. He's got a strong case. I can seen him putting himself out of the frame and then goes public with his reasons.
Cameron and May should be keeping the police on board, not attacking them. The time for recriminations in later, once reports have been compiled. The time for politicking and trying to score points in not now.
If Cameron has some overriding tactic - I can't believe he has a stretegy - and it includes alienating the police then he's got it spot on.
He should have used the word we to include the government and the police, indeed the emergency response as a whole. Instead of saying that the police got it all wrong he should say something like:
Yes, there are those who suggest that the police got their response all wrong. To them I say that the circumstances were unique. We will, of course, look into all aspects of the disturbances to discover what lessons can be learned, and how we can ensure that such criminality does not happen again.
or some such rubbish. He should not have criticised the police at this stage. That's fairly basic.
As the OP said, he can at times say things that people want to hear. Talk is cheap. I want his to do the things we want him to do. The odds for that are a lot longer.
In such circumstances as the riots the police is the natural allie of the government. It must have taken real effort to p
s off those ACPO officer who are after the post of commissioner of the Mets. They are normally only too keen to say yes.

The issues of police responsibility for the errors of the stand-off and no-arrest approach have been made clear.
Recent statements and commitments to do what can be done are very much in keeping with public opinion and sentiment.
Admittedly there are vested interests and political opponents trying to score points but it's usually transparent as devices go.
