The culture of greed and impunity we are witnessing on our TV screens stretches right up into corporate boardrooms and the Cabinet. It embraces the police and large parts of our media. It is not just its damaged youth, but Britain itself that needs a moral reformation.
But, who or what could possibly turn this sorry state of affairs around?

Religeous zealots or a benign dictator. We're screwed.

Truly agree with the writer, sadly I also truly believe what we saw last week was only just the start.

With the immanent collapse of the euro and the US going from bad to worse, when things start to get really tough here that's when the real decline will occur.

Those with nothing, have nothing to loose.

Education seems to be slipping too.

...I'm right here waiting, in your own time chaps.

I won't misuse the power and buy half of the bahama's as a holiday home and build half a dozen race circuits to play on, honest.

That is the problem.

Modern politicians are self serving duplicitous bds. To a man or woman.

Real problem is that our leaders are totally out of touch. And comfortable.

My concern over the riots was the complete lack of understanding that such a large part of society is on the point of explosion. Its one thing not to care about the problems we have its a whole different ballgame to not be aware of an impending explosion in society.

Nobody in power saw this coming. Our leaders are not just detached from society they are not interested in society. They only have their own interests at heart. They are the leaders of the me first attitude.

The Police did not see this coming, our security forces were totally unaware of the threat, our politicians did not see it. Literally no one in power was sufficiently aware of the utter sense of frustration in society fuelling this mess to understand how close we were to this uprising. Or how close we were to an explosion of violence all over the country.

Blissfully unaware. And comfortable in their ignorance.

And now the idiot politicians, who to a man were on holiday and returned after the Police had sorted the mess, are all claiming they were the instigators of the recovery of our streets.

But what do we do about it. God knows.

What's happening right now is just screwing down the safety valve on the pressure cooker. It's till going to blow - but with a bigger bang.

People and the internet. Seriously. We talk as never before. Just look at how a true consensus of opinion can be formed on this forum. Corners must be argued well and trolls get short shrift.

Thieves in suites and dresses of course.

Every time I see one of the (supposed) masked rioters justifying their actions the image that comes to my mind is the MPs trying to justify their expenses claim, mainly on the premise that the opportunity was there so they went for it.

Maybe we should dismiss politicians and the so-called leaders of society as capable of providing solutions to society's ills. They have demonstrated over the past 30 plus years that they are part of the problem rather than part of the solution.

I think it is up to each and every one of us to get involved in some way to make outr local communities better. Instead of just concentrating full time on our careers, families and closed social networks (including computer based networks) perhaps we should roll our sleeves up and get involved with local activities, local charities etc in our own local areas.

Assuming there is eventually concensus on the root causes of the problems - the way forward might be to agree common policies over all political parties which would at least aim to tackle the problems irrespective of who was voted in.

One slight difference , the suits tend to generate lots of money, the scum don't. I keep hearing the bankers are to blame why did we bail them out blar blar, but the banks make billions and if they would have been left to fail the whole of the UK would have failed, simple as that really.

Another point that winds me up, why do we give millions to other countries ... FFS we make millions on interest and trade deals for this money it's not fking free and we need to make £ somehow !

If MPs expense claims had been accompanied by arson, if the duck house had run down 3 people in the street, of if Jaqui Smith's porn had stripped a passer by naked and stolen their shoes, then I would view that article as something other than utter bks.

Fish finger sandwiches are very nice.

My answer to you is about as relevant to your comment as yours was to mine.
