If it doesn't perform that left-turn on Sunday then the mainland gets it!

Of course, by crossing the Atlantic it will start feeding on the cooler waters and start to slow down - but it will still provide miserable weather.

I watch the NHC website every year during the Hurricane season as we have a very large manufacturing plant in Puerto Rico that gets a battering every now and then.
This year it seems the storm tracks are mostly being directed straight off Philli/New Jersey coast area to us. I have heard a passing comment this is due to the jet stream running at a much lower lattitude this year pushing all the eastern atlantic storms our way. Normally they would dissapate or pass way north of us. Nice.

Agreed, Jet stream is dragging these big boys out into the Atlantic Seaboard. Its also why we are getting such crappy weather.

Is the drought order still in force...? smile

So what is causing the Jet Stream to be so active? Do we need to burn some more fossil fuels to fix it?

From the sounds of last nights winds you'd have thought it was already here.

Probably something entirely natural.

Or if you are a raving ecomentalist; IT'S MANS FAULT AND WE SHOULD ALL LIVE IN MUDHUTS!

Top tip : Don't have a full English breakfast before boarding hurl

Tip 2: Ginger biscuits are apparently good at soothing sea sickness?

I was just checking the forcast on Metcheck, and either there is something about to hit, or the site is a bit broken, but here in East Lancs, we start with over 200mph winds Saturday night, and they are still going strong by Wednesday next week, funny thing is, the 'feels like' temperature seems to be playing along with it eek

I agree. Nothing severe coming up. Scotland gets hammered by gales every year.

But they are still predicting it to veer off to Scotland at the last minute:

Funny how the MetOffice haven't released a weather warning yet. It's not going to be anything that Scotland doesn't receive on a regular basis, but it's going to be wet, windy and miserable!

Netweather has Orkney as being a bit blowy on Monday but nothing too out of the ordinary for up there I would have thought.
