New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said the threat was "uncorroborated" - or made up.

The authorities can't lose on this one.
Nothing happen = look our security works you are safe (can we remove some more of your civil liberties please)
Something Happens = look we were right, bad people want to hurt you (can we remove some more of your civil liberties please)

I've loved all the footage over the last few days with the added security in New York which of course would have made no difference what so ever 10years ago.

I think the problem the yanks are going to have is that, if anything does happen, it will be something completely unexpected as in the original 9/11

They were always going to virtually shut down NYC on the day anyway, it's much better for them if they have a "threat" to counter.

I see it more of a reminder to be scared of the bogey men and only the government can save you

For my part I visited Ground Zero in NYC in July, 2003. The whole experience left me close to tears having visited the WTC in 1988. Agree that terrorsts(God forbid) could launch an attack on any US city.

Incidentally, I understand New Delhi was attacked by some Moslem outfit recently.

You may not wish to believe this but much has been prevented over the last decade. Catch 22; can't announce such success as it would jeopordize links to catching others.

NYC is what the news likes to talk about; every major city in the nation is being vigilant.

I've often wondered this. Surely attacking targets like the White House/Empire State Building/a military base etc would be pointless as they're so well guarded. If you launched a series of bombings against a something such as roadside diners or shoe shops in Anytown USA this would be far more effective? No security and people wouldn't feel safe anywhere

I've always wondered why they hit these Hard targets (airports) are very well guarded now. Of course the London tube bombings were pretty soft. But sporting events or how about a concert (Glasto?) lots of people with big rucksacks plus the (drinking, dancing drug and cavorting is not popular with the funamentalists) so two birds with one stone.

bullett i've often thought that too (but not in that way mr Mi5)

you have these HUGE gatherings - football stadia, nightclubs etc whilst the security isnt lax if your going to do this then its possible.

whilst it would be a feather in some loony gang's cap to get 10 downing st or houses of parliment with the security like it is - it'd be mental going for them.

as someone said above - its the big brother reminding everyone OBL is dead but the bogey still exists
