A union leader is calling for mass strikes and civil disobedience if laws to control the unions and prevent them disrupting the country are brought in (that the public sector have to maintain 20-40% services during strikes).
I wonder, if the living fossils do try to f
k the country up, will Cameron grow a backbone and put them in their place? Or will he let the opportunity pass by due to the vocal minority?

1. The Trades Union movement does not have anywhere near the power or support that it used to have
2. Most union members realise that one of the worst things to do in a recession is to strike. And this is from a self-centred point of view - in times of pay freezes, pay cuts, increasing utilty and fuel bills etc, chucking a day's pay down the drain doesn't make much sense.
3. Its the Conference season - the TUC and all the parties will all be preaching to the converted, and this will be reported in the media
4. The media, whether or not it has its own agenda (which is a different discussion altogether) thrives on reporting strife and unrest.
I won't be losing too much sleep over what the likes of Bob Crow have to say

Unions and the Media.
Have a look at how the Unions are involved in the media as a business and then tell me how surprised you are at what an easy ride they get in the media.
You'll see a headline in the Times telling you outright the Murdoch’s are crooks and Conrad Black is a nice old boy before you will see the Unions getting a proper hard time from the media.
I am listening to Radio 2 and on the news I could have sworn the union chap just called the people he was talking to 'comrades'.
Have we really gone back to this? Do they really think it is the 1970's again and they are going to get glorious handouts from their Soviet counterparts in times of hardship? After all, in the dark days of the 1970's and 1980's during the heady days of continual striking and clashing with the government, these 'people' had help from our friends over the Iron Curtain, I believe it was their way of subverting our government.
Why, oh why, oh why do we have to put up with this crap as a nation, the Unions really are beyond belief. As I said earlier, use a firing squad to get rid of them.

I'd like just one simple change to the Union rules - when balloting for strike action a majority of the members must vote "yes" for there to be a strike. Currently it's a majority of the respondents to the ballot which means that if you ballot your 100 members and only 10 reply and of those only 6 respond "yes", currently that is seen as a mandate for strike action from the members despite only 6% saying "yes".
Something is scheduled to happen, while work doesn't happen, on 30 November.

The only bit of this that remotely worries me is the Fire Brigade strike. Fortunately everything else has been privatised so it's run by Serco or Veolia or similar, using temps, so that will all be fine. Aside from that it'll be the civil service on strike and the only thing people will notice is less of a crowd on the underground.
I don't remember these tw£ts threatening to strike when Gordon Brown was destroying our private pensions. Was that because he was using our money to buy more non jobs in the public sector? I can't wait to see these people picking carrots in the fields. That's what most of them are capable of at best. God help them if they had to work in the real world.
I can't see any reason that the government can't bring in an amendment to employment law that says that if you strike then you can be sacked. Why should an employee get to pick and choose when he comes in, without the employer having the right to choose to take on someone more reliable instead?
I think, should they try to thwart the democratically elected government's will, that this is exactly what they should do. We are constantly told by the trots that the unemployed are perfectly capable of doing a fine job, and just aren't given a chance, so let's find out.
And let's face it, most of the jobs done by the strikers require little more than an IQ barely above that of a turnip, and a couple of weeks' training.

maybe just illegally giving our money to the labour party. nicely laundered through the union modernisation and union learning funds.http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/7473683/U...

Of course the other key issue is you might all go on strike and nobody is really affected, and realises that what you do isn't that important.....1. The Trades Union movement does not have anywhere near the power or support that it used to have
