Well it's colder than average at the moment and Winter is expected to also be colder than average. Thus they have to get in extra bull***t now for the masses to swallow in the hope they then forget just how f***ng cold winter will be....

And realistically, anything on the BBC about AGW is to be expected. In fact, anything on the BBC is expected to have some s**t about AGW in there.....

Ten years ago they said there would be an x-metre sea level rise and 100,000 people homeless in the EU but F/A happened.

I dunno. We've just had the hottest summer ever as predicted earlier this year.

Sea level is falling now, maybe they meant to say a 1 metre drop and it was a slip of the tongue nuts

Sea levels seem to be rising here on the south coast, or is it we are sinking?

I thought we were tilting - Scotland going up, London going down, hence the Thames Barrier.

Hm, a London Tilt Tax!

Ignoring the sharp fall in the last two years, 2.8mm/year means that for a rise of 1 meter, you are going to have to wait 357.14 years.

Forgive me if I don't rush off to find my 'Waterworld' DVD...

BBC needs to keep the CAGW propaganda going because it's got a lot of pension money invested in so called green investments. Hardly a program goes by without some reference to man made climate change.

Where on the south coast are you? I live about 50 yds from the sea and haven't noticed a rise of any sort. (Genuine question)

As PHers will appreciate any local sea level change isn't indicative of changes in mean global sea level. In parts of Scandavia sea level has been falling consistently for much longer than 2 years after thick ice sheets melted at the end of the last ice age and the squashed bits underneath started expanding back up.

The quoted explanation for 2010-2011 sea level falls, of water remaining as snow and ice, is part of the explanation but there are also indicators of a thermosteric component e.g. the USA coastal SST anomaly has dipped markedly 2010-2011, -0.65 deg C from Sept 2010 i.e. back to the 1933 position. We are also into the second of two consecutive La Ninas after she returned in August and is expected to intensify through to Spring 2012. Sea level falls, aye.

Maybe I've got it wrong and it was just another one of the bbc's commedy programs
will listen again and see if any of it sounds sensible or is funny, they were on about launching thosands of tiny mirrors in to space to reflect the sun back and another dork from a former college now a university was going to spray salt or something into clouds at great expense to the tax payer , oh and there isnt enough land below sea level to fill to reduce sea level aparently....rolleyes

Geologically we are indeed tilting.

A while back the only standard metering site that was showing a rise in sea level was in Hong Kong. None of the others across the globe were. Ergo it is quite easy to draw a conclusion based around a very clear data anomaly.

Finally, if co2 is increasing and if this is causing a rise in temps etc then sea level rises are essential for our survival. It will cause an increase in the size of continental shelves globally along with a warming of these waters which will allow for the vital massive increase in the essential life forms that convert atmospheric co2 into solid state ocean floor deposits.

The oceans are the planet's temperature stabilisers and once they warm and the shallow water areas are increased the massive growth increase of the shallow water creatures will remove the excess co2 from the atmos and regulate everything.

It is irrelevant that some land will go back to being sea it has to happen.
