Government has told us all to cut back and except a lower standard of living . So come on tell us what have you done upto now . be honest

Mines ,
Stopped pension.
Topped up loft insulation.
Halved the cooking have more cold dinners .
Only go out once a month if iam lucky.
Not insuring the porsche its going to be sorn and put away.
Turned p,i,r light off on the out side and used more low enery bulbs where i can .And we only have 1 small table light on at night.
Aldi shopping.
And the final think if its yellow let it mellow ,if its brown flush it down.

I don't go out to the pub anywhere near as much now (although that is more to do with having a 1-year-old child than saving money hehe).

I'm selling my car, I've reviewed all my bills and cut out loads of expenditure there. I'm drinking less and going out less.
Much of this is down to the fact that I'm about to have a child and my wife is on to maternity pay though: 50% cut in household income.

Wife and I spending everything we have whilst money still has some value.

Then when we've spunked it all away we'll throw ourselves on the mercy of the welfare state.

I've taken a lower paid job rather than go on the dole, does that count?

I'm not sure it will, though, as my tax contributions will drop by more than a years worth of benefits, and as I am now not in the 40% bracket, I will also still get the child benefit for my 4 kids. I may even be eligible for working family tax credits, I will have to look into that.

My previous, high tax bracket car was stolen, so I got 6 months worth of tax back, and I have bought a smaller car that costs £360 less a year to tax, so I am giving less to the country as a result of that. It's better fuel economy, so I will be paying less fuel duty per mile travelled, and I am drving much less as I cycle & get the train now.

I'm not sure what else we can cut back on, to be honest.

I no longer have a car, just my van for work.

I also decided to move the girlfriend out, with a P45 and take on the house on my own.

It's not all bad biggrin

We have no debt right now, not even a mortgage - but I am worried about leaving our money in the bank - may go and buy an M3.....

Can't offer much on this, as within the usual limits I do what I want not what some lizard tells me to do.

Nothing, perhaps other than work harder than ever.

What will I do? Leave the UK as soon as I can.

2 main things:

I'm not buying booze in the UK (less tax)
I'm driving less and far more conservatively (less tax)

Oops.

rented my house out, left the country, got a 100% payrise, stopped paying tax. only paying £10 to fill the car, and internet/mobile bills are picked up by the company.

cutting back is a bh. i'm having to eat out more and go drinking at weekends just so i can keep my bank balance down.

Very safe job so feel quite lucky really.
