62k from the Guardian? I thought journalism was far more well paid.

Apparently (according to a post from another Guardian commentator) that means to cover his direct costs he needs to generate roughly 6 million page views per year. That is based on what GMG would get back in ad revenue.

Wow! His savings to income ratio is hardly impressive. How can you earn so much and have so little to show for it?

He's spent it on eco nonsense.

My rudimentary mathematics skills reveal that he is paid £102,340 too much.

Until recently I had more savings, but I spent them eco-fitting my house. In view of what has now happened to the market, that might not have been the wisest of investments.

I don't know if it seems a lot, or a little. His articles can probably be done in a day per week, giving him a great return on time invested, but on the other hand, I'm used to the idea that "experts" (which the Guardian seem to think he is) command a fair amount more than that.

I'd always assumed that he actually had a real job, and that the Guardian stuff was just a sideline that his career allowed him to do via the insight that he gained on the 9-5.

He has two investments totalling £13k?

Doesn't own that house then? I think not if he's been spending money on it.

So if I'm to believe what he is saying, he has no investments and no shareholdings. I guess he doesn't have a pension then. scratchchin

Presuming there's some non-taxable 'extra's' thrown into that deal.

In truth i believe that is around the threshold above which you have to declare lodging income. In other words he's playing the system as much as everyone else.

Isn't the Rent-a-Room scheme £4,250 a year tax-free and applicable only to the main or residential home?
