Murdo Fraser, one of the candidates to replace Annabel Goldie as Scottish Conservative leader, is proposing that they split from the UK party to 'put Scotland first and strengthen the union'. As such, the Tory party proper would not be represented in Scotland.

A betrayal of Scottish Tory voters, as Scotland's only Tory MP David Mundell put it?

Or shrewd political maneuvering to ensure he's right up there in the running for leader of an independent Scotland?
