London anti-capitalist protests. The irony!
Discussion
I've just watched the news and seen all the protestors camped out in the grounds of St Paul's cathedral. A small village of tents, a dude juggling his balls in the Autumn sun and placard wavers keen to get their, "down with the city of London financial workers" message across.
As someone who in the last few years has started up a business which trades globally and so has to employ the services of the city to change pounds into dollars then send said dollars half way across the world I couldn't help but chuckle at the irony of all those Chinese made tents keeping said protestors warm, dry and giving them somewhere to have a peaceful dump whilst thumbing through a copy of this week's Hello magazine.
The very people who they are protesting against are the same people who facilitated the import of those vital tents.
The wool from which their jumpers were knitted, the hemp from which their shoes were made, most certainly their underpants all came from overseas where the good old British pound needs to be changed into local wonga if it's to have any buying power.
When taken in isolated chunks isn't life simple. Sadly in the real world it all gets a bit more complicated.

I think that utilities and railways should be nationalised. However, I still deal with various private utility suppliers and rail companies, otherwise I'd have a bit of trouble getting heating and water, and I'd not get to work. Thaaaaat's right. Keep drinkin' that good old banker Kool-Aid. Another bucket full ? No problem, we got plenty of that for you. Tastes good doesn't it ?
And remember, the more you drink, the less pain you'll feel as we f
k your arse.
Are you 5?And remember, the more you drink, the less pain you'll feel as we f
k your arse.Deckster, I think you would be shocked by the number of people at these demos in NY/London/Frankfurt etc, who are FAR higher up the corporate pole than you think. These people support capitalism, just not the rapacious mutant capitalism that is currently infecting the whole world.
Do you genuinely think that the amount that is being ripped out of society by parts of the business community are sustainable ? Where do you think these VAST amounts of money come from?
Do you believe in The Magic Money Tree ? If not, tell me where it's coming from.

By "rapacious mutant capitalism" do you mean the sort of capitalism that sees banks bailed out?smifffymoto said:
Whilst it seems good sport on PH to "diss" the crusties and students, they are the only ones with enough conviction to actually get off their arse and protest about the things they dissagree with.Too many people moan but won't do f
k all about it!
That's because they are too busy working to feed the crusties.

The problem is, they don't know what they're protesting for/against.

There used to be plenty of talk about demos on PH when Labour was in power.

k all about it!IMHO, the older you are, and the more exposure you get, the more you question it.
WRT the question "they don't know what they are protesting for/against" I think this is broadly correct. There is no real specific target and there is no clear solution, but it is clear that there is a vague, unconnected but symbiotic mixture of groups casually defined as "the 1 percent" who are plundering the rest of society.
This form of extreme capitalism, by definition, will eat itself.

That's because when they've finished bunking off from Oxford and had enough of dicking about they'll no likely be slotted into a non-job high up in papa's company.
