Poppies on sports kits?
Discussion
What on earth are the FA doing asking for poppies to be on football kits?
I wore a poppy today, when I went to the gym I got by fine without needing to swap it to my shorts and Tshirt!
What's with the desperate desire to be SEEN to be popped up at all times? And more to the point, isnt a poppy about people who gave their lives for others freedoms? Where's the freedom of choice if your employer FORCES you to wear one on your uniform?

it's as good as forced.
That's your guess. How do you know the players didn't ask if they would be doing this, or could do this ?There is a minutes silence in many public places because it is announced it will be done. The times I've been some place and this happens, everyone joins in. Had it not been announced most would just go about there business. I never felt it was forced on me and I always had to option not to if I wished. It's the same for the situation you've mentioned.
People are trying to make a bigger deal out of a football shirt, than remembering what the Poppy symbolises.
A poppy is a personal way of showing remembrance and putting something towards the funding of those who still need it. How on earth does having it on a kit, like a bloody Nike swoosh, do any of that?
It's a modern trend, 20 years ago did we have poppies all over tv in the week before the 11th?

Has this kind of hoo-haa happened before, because I don't remember poppies ever being embroidered into shirts before.
England have played international games a few times in the last decade over the weekend nearest Remembrance Sunday with little fuss. The FA have been increasing their support for recognition of this annual event over the last two or three years - reflecting somewhat wider society (note the rise and rise of Help for Heroes for example which is also supported quite vocally by the popular media - especially the red top daily newspapers significant to the football following demographic).Poppies are not worn or supported outside of the "white" countries of the Commonwealth in any significant way.
The poppy has become a pawn in the power struggle between Fifa and the FA, unfortunately. Personally, I think the players could have driven to the ground with a poppy, worn it on their tracksuit, and emerged from the tunnel with it on - discarding it before playing - without any disrespect.
What the poppy represents is far more important than this match. This is in my personal opinion, and i don't ask anyone to share it!

FWIW This was what FIFA had suggested/offered prior to Mr Cameron, the FA PR machine, the media and the Duke of Cambridge becoming involved. What the poppy represents is far more important than this match. This is in my personal opinion, and i don't ask anyone to share it!

How the f
k are poppies to do with politics or religion?
Unless those deciding against have a political or religious agenda.
Poppies are about all of us just remembering, past and present.
p
s off FIFA.

p
s off FIFA.The poppy symbol and what it represents means far more than a sodding game
and the self important knobbers that administer it.
And as it has sod all to do with politics and sky fairies the
rule they "fifa" are imposing is not relevant in this case anyhow.
