For example. Issue 1:
1 million + unemployed people, both young and old.
How many private sector businesses are there with a small amount of extra capacity, which could use an extra pair of hands for a few hours each week, thousands I would imagine!

As an employer myself I would be willing to take an unemployed person for half or a full day each week into my company to work with me directly and/or other staff. Therefore offering training/education and a chance to become employable (hopefully).

For this I would want my local authority to recognise my skills/input in a constructive way, through maybe a tax incentive or other (there could be many options).

I would also want to the job centre or whoever is responsible for the current mess to allow me to comment on the person in a constructive way, good or bad to try and find out why they are actually out of work, with maybe some extreme consequences for those who don’t cooperate.

This might all sound a bit crazy but the idea popped in my head. Our government is never actually going to solve these issues. Maybe it takes a few (thousand+) positive individuals/role models to volunteer and come up with some radical but realistic alternative solutions?

What do you think?

In regards to tax incentives for business owners, if you are making your business more productive by putting on a casual worker then why should you require assistance from the govt?

I like this idea.

Rewarding companies who give people a change.

Incentive makes sense. It's unlikely cost to the business would not be covered quickly, if at all in some cases.

I could offer to do this for free, possibly I would but shouldn't I at least ask the question, I wouldn't be a very good business person if I didn't.

Im not sure this is constructive. Typically it is in a work experience persons interests to do a good job to get a reference. You already have this right by a future employer ringing up and asking about the worker.

As for the extreme consequences thing...Im not sure who you mean wont be cooperating. The worker, the job centre case worker or the govt for being responsible for this current mess.

So is this a business decision or a moral/social decision?

Remembering that the reason for the mess is due to the handouts. Wouldnt that make you contributing to the problem by asking for a handout and negating the good work done for taking someone on?

Oh, and btw I still think it is a fabulous idea that you should follow up on yourself. Getting any govt assistance in the form of anything will only boil your pee.

More moral than business, perhaps I have gone soft but do believe that if a few thousand people with real practical skills got together and volunteered a few hours time maybe we could make a dent in some these issues?

= a moral idea that has to fit most businesses to make it successful?

How many businesses would take this moral leap without asking for something back?

I really think you should follow it up but do it off your own back. I used to participate in a big brother program for troubled boys who would come in and help me on my racing car/hot rod builds. I always told them there was a letter at the end of it which their actions would help me write it. There were some ups and downs but they were hard workers and thrived on dicipline.

I would think it would raise crime. But you're right. They vote and have time to riot and get their face on the tv talking about inequality whilst you...well, whilst you're at work smile

Gaspode's 12-point Plan. I have come up with these during the last 10 minutes, so I accept that not all might be fully thought through but I'm sure they could be worked on smile

Education and Training.

1. No child permitted to leave school until they have either A levels or have completed a skills course like plumbing or carpentry or welding. This isn't age dependent, If a 14-year old can demostrate they have skills and can get themselves an apprenticeship then fine.
2. All unemployed people must be in training 4 days a week to obtain their benefits, and must be prepared to undergo random drug testing.
3. All prisoners must be able to read and write and have a skill before they get let out

Taxation
4. Shift the main tax stream to VAT or other indirect taxes. Reduce direct taxation to put people more in control of their expenditure. If you've got a pile of money in your pocket you will still feel better about life even if stuff does cost more.

Social Responsibility
5. EVERYONE makes a public statement of loyalty and commitment to a set of social responsibility principles every time they get their passport renewed (and of course to get one in the first place)
6. 6-7pm on all UK TV channels are dedicated to positive social reinforcement programming. If the media is dominated by lefty liberals, let's make them produce something positive rather than just wingeing
7. Community clean teams set up and given incentives for improving their neighbourhood. Keeping the environment clean and tidy should not be seen as a punishment, but as a positive social contribution. Pensioners can help with this kind of stuff
8. NO unemployment beenfits for any single men under the age of 50.
9. NO child support payments beyond 2 children, Single mothers under 20 live either with their parents or in dormitory accommodation. Breeding rugrats must not be seen as a ticket to a life of ease on the state

Business
10. Tax breaks for companies offering employment opportunities and apprenticeships
11. Every company that takes on someone who has been unemployed for a year or more gets the full cost of that person's dole money as a contribution for the first 6 months, and a further contribution after 28 months if that person is still unemployed

Export Drive
12. The UK is the world's 6th biggest manufacturing economy, and 20% of it is in engineering. Making cool stuff out of lumps of metal is what we do best. Any engineering company that is exporting gets additional help.

loyalty and commitment . Don't think you would get people to ever do that . That works both ways as the uk governments have sh-t on uk public for years where the loyalty and commitment to us.

Letting to many of the wrong people into the country,
Politicians and bankers fiddling showing us they are not a good example ,
We have been over charged for every thing,
Government letting industry close down,
Giving big contracts to foreign companies ,(when they could keep it in house )
Letting foreign companies buy uk businesses,(IF FOREIGN COMPANIES BUY UK BUSINESSES CAUSE THERE ARE A GOOD INVESTMENT . SO WHY DOESN'T THE UK GOVERNMENT SEE IT THAT WHY AND SUPPORT THEM RATHER LET FOREIGN REEP THE BENEFITS ).
Selling our assets,

So where it the level of loyalty and commitment there .

good on the other points though .

I wrote to Cameron several months ago suggesting taking new workers completely out of the tax system for one year, allowing them to keep everything they make and reducing employers' wage costs as it would allow them to pay lower salaries without penalising the employee.

More recently I have written to Cameron suggesting 'work weeks' for willing people who would be put together with employers through a local 'matchmaking' website. No health and safety, no sitting around watching others, but proper work. In worst case scenario the bod accumulates a portfolio of work-weeks in a variety of real work situations. Best case, the employer gives them a job. To prevent abuse, employers get three cracks at the scheme, then they either have to employ someone or duck out of the system for a set period. No limit on number of work-weeks individuals can do.
