As the title suggests, with BBC suggestions of 2million having a day away from receiving private sector taxes as a wage, how much will the UK government save as a result of not paying them? Also, could reducing non-essential public sector jobs to a 4 day week reduce the defecit by enough to make a dent? biggrin

About £88 / head for every "Five a day co-ordinator" that is on strike today.

(This was an actual post on Herefordshire Council's job site in 2009 IIRC)

Say an average of £100 a day for 2million workers = £200m
Of course the strikers don't actually lose a days pay as such, they lose 1/7th weeks pay mad

I know one company who have got extra staff in today, as they are expecting a rush from the strikers doing their Christmas shopping. So a strike could be good for the economy, lets hope they do it once a week until Christmas.

Newcastle council reckoned about £100k in their area, and they said they were going to donate that money to community and voluntary groups in the area. (well that's what I read somewhere on the BBC the other day)
