It's not unusual AFAIK for a partially completed structure to be more vulnerable to high winds than the finished article. Makes a good story though!

And it's not unusual for completed structure to fail, Ferrybridge 'C' power station.
On 1 November 1965, three of the cooling towers collapsed due to vibrations in 85 mph winds. Although the structures had been built to withstand higher wind speeds, the design only considered average wind speeds over one minute and neglected shorter gusts. Furthermore, the grouped shape of the cooling towers meant that westerly winds were funnelled into the towers themselves, creating a vortex. Three out of the original eight cooling towers were destroyed and the remaining five were severely damaged.

I'm starting an e-petition. We must NEVER build another cooling tower, EVER!! They are clearly inherently unstable and dangerous!! What if a small child had been playing under it when it collapsed??

I'm adding to the petition. We must NEVER build another wind-powered generator! For the same reasons! WON'T SOMEBODY PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!?!?!

Is that supposed to be a news item? 50 words and no pictures? fk me the BBC is st.

And what does this mean

"The turbine has been erected but was not turned on and appears to have been unable to cope with gusts of up to 50mph."

Clearly that's nonsense because the wind gusts at up to 50mph 99.9% of the time. It couldn't have been built if that was true.

But funnily enough, an 'environmental photojournalist' (no agenda there, then) send them a photo she claims shows a polar bear that's turned cannibal because of (can you guess.....?) Global Climageddon and they manage an in depth story on it.

And they haven't had the melt-through's from reactors 1, 2, 3 and the fuel storage at 4 yet. God forbid.

First they lied and said it was under control.
Then they lied and said it was contained.
Then they lied and said the Hydrogen explosions were "normal" under these unusual occurrences.
Then they lied and said they couldn't have a meltdown.
Then they lied and said it would be contained.

Then I saw through the nuclear lies and how I had been deceived.

Wake up before it's too late for the sake of your green and pleasant land, mine is going to be just fine, thanks.

What hasn't happened yet is in contrast to what has happened - is that what you meant?

It start's earlier than that... You'll just have to take my word on it, as try as I might I can't find the article now.

But there was a 'small' hoo-hah over here in Ireland a few years back when the excavations for a new windy mill farm in Galway/Clare cause a substantial subsidence in the peat bog.

This was estimated at the time as releasing more CO2 into the atmosphere that the entire farm was ever designed to save protect us from.

bdly not funny that these events don't crop up in google when you go looking for them again - curse my non backups

I'm pretty sure. Maybe it's 99.2% or even 98.4% but I'd say the vast majority of the time the wind blows at up to 50mph.

Just saw the same picture on the BBC, that windfarm is less than a mile away from me.
